An idea for a walk in February? Hodsock Priory is near Worksop about 12 miles from Sheffield. They are renowned for a fantastic display of snowdrops during February although there is a £5 entrance fee. I have never actually been but it looks good. See website for more details http://www.snowdrops.co.uk
I believe you can walk from Carlton in Lindrick to Blyth calling at Hodsock which is about halfway between the two. I have sent off for a book which gives more details about this and other local walks.
I can research it a bit more if there is enough interest. It would have to be in February as that is the only time Hodsock is open.

Looks lovely, and the homemade cakes sound good as well :hihi:

I have been a couple of times and it is very nice, the only thing is that it does seem very commercial and they are out to part you from your money in every way possible. Everything is more expensive than elsewhere, and you do feel on a bit of a conveyor belt walking around the garden, especially when it is busy.

We usually go to Roche abbey as there is a lovely display of snowdrops there and it is free to walk around the outside of the site :)

Never heard of Hodsock, apart from what I sometimes wear (groan!), but it sounds like a good idea to me, and I'll definitely be up for it. If you want to do some more research then that'll be great, then we can discuss it the next time you walk. Thanks for the suggestion!

We've been there once & I agree with hennypenny - it is a bit like a conveyer belt - very busy! I don't know what I was expecting, but there weren't as many snowdrops as I expected.

Roche Abbey - now thats the walk I'm arranging with the photography group - maybe I'll be going twice?

Have to talk genealogy with you sometime hennypenny - been at it for 15 years!!
