View Full Version : XP drivers for Vista laptop
wolverine 07-01-2008, 20:49 Hi, I have recently purchased a E-systems 3090UK laptop with a Celeron M420 1.6Ghz CPU from another forum member, its a really nice piece of kit for what i paid. Only thing is, is that its running Windows Vista. Its only got 512MB memory so as you can imagine, it runs pretty slow with vista Plus no games work on it (vista again).
I want to install XP on it, im worried though that ill install XP and end up with no drivers (been down this road before) . Is there any was I can do some sort of driver check to find the XP drivers before I perform the re-install.
I would normally go direct to drivverguide however last time i visited, it was full of AD's and it taken me about a hour to get 1 driver. That site has really gone downhill.
Your help is really appreciated.
Mike
You need to ask Neeeeeeeeeek - he did got rid of Vista & put XP on a laptop for a friend recently.
wolverine 07-01-2008, 21:03 Silly question but how do i ask him/her?
SimpyTimpy 07-01-2008, 21:29 Hey there Wolverine,
Just had a look at the drivers for the Ei Systems 3090 laptop and you shouldn't have any problems downgrading to Windows XP. Take a look at the following link for driver downloads from 'The Tech Guys' - most of them say they are for Windows Vista, however copying the name of the driver and googling for an XP version wont be a problem. As far as I am aware 99% of all hardware with Vista drivers also have XP equals because of the number of people choosing to stick with XP until a Service Pack comes out for Vista.

If that fails, just drop me a PM and I'll be happy to sort your laptop out for you, if you want you can drop it round at my house and stick around whilst I sort it out for you. Choose a weekend and I'll do it for free, no hassle.
My personal Microsoft biased advice is that buying a 512mb bit of RAM for you lappy and sticking with Vista wouldn't be the biggest mistake of your life though - you'll learn to love it :)
wolverine 08-01-2008, 11:19 Thanks very much for your helpful advice. If the lappy was mine, I would prolly stick with Vista as I know its not all bad. Thing is tho I bought this for my Niece as a Christmas pressie and she want Bratzs Games on it which dunt seem to work with Vista :(. I will let you know if i hit any probs and thanks again

volvoB10M 08-01-2008, 17:17 I have a 3090uk that I recently downgraded to xp,needless to say it was quickly upgraded back to Vista.
It will take XP without any problems as such, however you will need the driver disk as XP wont install all the drivers correctly.
Main Issues were Graphics drivers, audio drivers and wirless was a bit tricky.
I have have all the drivers,if you require them let me know and I can email them to you.
Scotsmike 21-09-2008, 13:13 Hi Volvo. Is there any chance you could email over the wireless drivers as thats all i am needing at the moment.
Many thanks :hihi:
Hi,
I recently got a 3090uk and was wondering about downgrading to xp too (thus how i came to be here) The laptop was given to me with no cds so if i downgrade i will not be able to upgrade (unless there is a restore partition i have not seen). I have found a directory with all the vista drivers (C:\Applications\Drivers) in and the readme files mention xp a few times. My plan is to save them and try using those for xp.
A few things i've noticed so far is there there is only ONE memory slot. So I ordered a 1gb stick for £20. I will let you know if it will run or not...
Also the HDD is removable so there is a possiblity of upgrading that too, as 30gb is way too small for vista.
Just an update on the RAM. It turns out you this laptop will quite happily run using 667hz
And if you got this laptop from PC World you will find a ISO (dvd.iso) of the recovery CD in a hidden folder (C:\Applications\OEM)
I agree with "JARMIN" just upgrade the RAM. you can get 1gb for about £20.

topbloke77 27-01-2009, 20:07 Hi,
I too have had the pleasure of using the Tech Guys support pages of PC World to attempt to put XP on a EI Systems 3090.
As you will see the drivers are all listed for Vista.
What to do is use the drivers for the EI systems 3089. Its the same spec of laptop, but you can get most of the drivers from there.
The wireless says its an intel 3xxxABG. This driver does not work and I ended up with a big yellow question mark in Device Manager for 801.b/g WLAN (or similar). To install this chose the option to let windows connect to the internet (via a LAN network connection) to find the drivers. It actually works for this device. For a bit of research it ends up installing an MSI driver. (No mention of that on the ****Ty tech guys support pages).
This forum and a bloke called SLY was the biggest help:-
"(http://www.conceptex.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35)"
Hope this helps.........and I hope everyone learns a lesson about buying crap from PC world.
