View Full Version : Which part of Terry Hall's career did you think was best?
pippadoll 07-01-2008, 22:45 I am not as techie as Steve2007, but his Paul Weller thread took me back.

I loved the Specials, although I was just a bit too young to appreciate them fully. But they turned my head. I was just about old enough to go to see both Fun Boy Three and Colourfield.
I feel the Specials were something really special and then it would be the Colourfield.
Nothing much better than Ghost Town.
CHAIRBOY 07-01-2008, 22:52 The Terry Hall I knew was with Lenny The Lion.
EdnaKrabappe 07-01-2008, 22:58 Our lips are sealed and Tunnel of Love still two of my favourite records. Again more to do with my age than anything. Love the Specials stuff though and Thinking of you was a great record. The pama international stuff he's doing now is also great!
Did you go see him at DQ a couple of months ago? He did a dj set there? I didn't as was busy doing something else but would have loved to go.
pippadoll 07-01-2008, 23:46 No, I didn't see him. I have only heard of couple of his really recent songs and I thought it was good stuff.
Our Lips and Thinking of you were top songs.
I used to have my secret box backed in pictures of Terry... and I had a little pic of him from Smash Hits beside my pillow. It was when he had the ruffled, slightly highlighed hair; it must have been when he was in Fun Boy Three. Maybe I should have posted this on the embarrassing post on general.

I remember that ventriloquist act he did with lenny the lion, although that schools TV programme he did teaching kids to read was a bit dire.
Oh, sorry, wrong terry hall!

Whilst trying to trick youtube into not finding an old tune that I wanted the other day. I tried searching Fun Boy Three, and if you search it, you'll find all of their biggys on there. ;)
Classics.
One thing that always amuses me about Terry Hall was his lack of miming skills whilst on TOTPs. :hihi:
EDIT: I've thought of something else, Mr spots everything here, noticed on The Specials 'Do Nothing' - watch the trombone player, he's in a world of his own, I think miming his motions to a completely different track :hihi: *switches geek mode off*
RED ALERT 08-01-2008, 03:48 coventry automatics and the specials gotta be the best.
'Laugh' by Terry Hall is one of my all time favourites....
the_rudeboy 08-01-2008, 10:10 I feel the Specials were something really special
You answered your own question there.
Treat yourself to the Trojan Ska Revival box set, only £7 from Zavvi(?).......it'll have ya skankin all day. :D
BasilRathbon 08-01-2008, 11:27 His solo album "Home" and lead single "Forever J" bombed commercially, but they're great lost classics of the 1990s. Have a look on Youtube - I can't access it at work but the video's probably on there.
Apparently he's still going and was last heard of last year working with a band called Dub Pistols (no, I've not heard of them either)
I remember Lennie the Lion too - perhaps we can have a thread separated to distinguish which Terry Hall is which :hihi:

I think you'll find that was deliberate to take the mickey :P
His finest moment: miming "Gangsters" on TOTP - absolutely rivetting performance - so cool it hurt
