View Full Version : Valantines Cards - have you ever got one? slimsid2000 14-02-2005, 14:50 A simple question: have you ever received one. Is it known for people to send them to those who are not their girl/boyfriend? As I have no experience of relationships I don't really know much about these matters. nick2 14-02-2005, 15:20 I once found a beermat in my jacket pocket with "be my valentine" and a phone number on it, does that count ? Uuurgh - you've made me feel all dirty! :heyhey: I usually get a couple, and one that had the same handwriting three years running that I could never trace... and before anyone asks, yes I know what my Mom's handwriting looks like! K x nick2 14-02-2005, 15:49 Originally posted by Kristian Uuurgh - you've made me feel all dirty! :heyhey: I thought it was quite sweet, I was a bit obsessed about finding out who it was, but I never did. Of course I could have just called the number. Sam Miguel 14-02-2005, 15:51 About ten years ago, I received a Valentine card. Then the same thing happened for the next couple of years. My wife and I wracked our brains, but could not work it out who they were form. I kept them all and the handwriting was definitely that of the same person. Then they mysteriously stopped. Bugger!! To this day I have no idea who sent them. They could have been a joke, but then again, you never know. I guess I will never unravel the mystery. MuteWitness 14-02-2005, 15:55 every year but this year and i have a boyfriend! I can't believe you didn't call. I sat by the phone for hours too... :( Seriously though, it sounds a bit mad to me. If they were so close to you that they could put something in your pocket without you noticing, why on earth not stop and say Hi, buy you a drink etc? K x This was back when the Cossack had a pool table so my coat could have been anywhere while I was playing and I wouldn't have been watching it. I have been told I look a bit unaproachable, which is weird becasue I'm not. I have been told I look a bit unaproachable, which is weird becasue I'm not. I bet I know who that was. A certain person once ran up to me and gave me his phone number, said 'call me' and ran ot of the door. We had never spoken before. I'll PM you! K x WallBuilder 14-02-2005, 16:18 I've recieved a few over the years, the one's from g/f's I didn't mind as girls seem to like this sentimental stuff but it was a different story if I ever got one from an unknown source, so frustrating. I once sent my g/f a card and then another in which I'd done a passable imitation of her ex's hand writing. She was furious and was breathing fire and smoke and telling me she was going to go and have words with him so I decided I'd better come clean, some girls just don't have any sense of humour!!!!! I was in her bad books for days. royjames 14-02-2005, 16:44 I get them regulary being such a sexy gitt. miniminch 14-02-2005, 16:54 Originally posted by royjames I get them regulary being such a sexy gitt. Yeah but instead of three X's you get three K's. Its the stormtroopers uniform that the women go for - sexy git royjames 14-02-2005, 16:56 LOl i HAVE TO ADMIT THAT WAS A GOOD ONE. Zebra 14-02-2005, 18:40 I've had at least one for most years since I turned 15. On occasion there have been 2 but never any secret admirers. The best Valentines gift was from my Grandad who one day gave me a stack of singles for no reason other than Valentines. I was 14 so it was before cards became a regular event for me. Hmm... singles... I wonder if there's a hidden message in there? He's dead now though, so can't ask. Still fondly remember the gift. This year mine is 2 feet high and hand made and I love it, there's even a gorgeous poem inside. :) :) :) msnutty 14-02-2005, 21:05 i think the lorry must ave got lost coz mine aint turned up yet!!! :hihi: NatalieSheff 14-02-2005, 21:10 i always get 1 from my best friend at least. thank god 4 friends! cos hubs are useless!!!;) xafier 14-02-2005, 21:10 I've only ever had one Valentines card... and that was from my ex girlfriend last year when was dating... that's the only card I've ever had... valentines day sucks! when am I gonna get harressed by a beautiful brunnette woman? :( Bigfoot 15-02-2005, 18:12 Originally posted by slimsid2000 Who else would you expect to get one from? Is it known for people to send them to those who are not their girl/boyfriend? As I have no experience of relationships I don't really know much about these matters. I believe it used to be sort of traditional to send a card anonimously to the person you love, who is not necessarily your partner. Naturaly your partner would expect to receive one from you, so thats where most of the sales go... slimsid2000 16-02-2005, 13:29 It's heartening to know that at least 13 other people so far have also never received one. at least I am not the only one. Pauly 16-02-2005, 13:38 The only sincere oners I've had have been from girlfriends. I had a couple in school in the later years of senior school but neither one was anything important. One was a light-hearted joke from a girl who knew I kinda liked her but didn't like me in that way, and another was from a girl who liked me but who I didn't like in that way. I do think that too much pressure is put on people to find the perfect gift or create the perfect surprise. Yeh it's nice to do something nice for Valentines but I see it as a bit of a novelty day and it's nothing to get seriously wound up about if you can't afford a big gift or surprise. A nice card with some nice words is lovely. My better half kept it simple but still managed to seriously impress me. :) She's an incurable romantic though. Awww. :D Lily04 16-02-2005, 13:40 The place where I went to elementary school, all of the kids were nice and we got so many cards on Valentine's Day! Probably because I went to a private school!! Carmine 16-02-2005, 13:52 All the way through school I was the guy who got sent the "joke" Valentine's Day card. By the time I was 16 I knew every variation on the "joke". When the card turned up at my desk I gave it a cursory look before tossing it in the bin, making sure that I remembered the name of the person it was supposedly from. That way when they came up to me with the card that was supposedly from me I could simply point to the card supposedly from them and walk away with a little bit of dignity intact. The first sincere Vantine card I got was from a girl at college who decided that after I cut off my hair I must have had a personality transplant at the same time. We dated for a week and when she realised I was the same person with a different haircut, she told me she wanted to be single again. I grew the hair back and from that point on decided that anyone who didn't like me as I looked there and then wasn't worth the time of day. The first Valentine card I sent myself, I placed into the hand of a girl I met through a mutual friend. She seemed taken with the gesture...but then left me two months later, telling me she was still in love with her ex...then got together with the mutual friend. The first real and wonderful Valentine card I ever recieved was from my fiancee. Now we exchange cards every year and I've never been happier to have had to wait to recieve my first real Valentine from someone. |
