View Full Version : Name of old film driving me mad
wadsleyblade 07-01-2008, 00:26 Went to see 'I am legend' starring Will Smith last night and it reminded me of a film I saw years ago that had roughly the same theme. I cant remember for the life of me what the film was called. One man only was left alive after some sort of world disaster (think it was in New York but cant be certain) except for zombies that only came out at night.
Anybody remember the name of the film and the actor?? I thought it may have been Charlton heston but done a search on his films and dont recognise the name. help!!!! its driving me mad!
AJ sheffield 07-01-2008, 00:29 The Omega Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067525/)
wadsleyblade 07-01-2008, 00:32 Cheers AJ, so it WAS charlton heston!
Tartempion 07-01-2008, 00:52 Yeah I saw I am Legend the other night and I thought I was going mad when he was talking to the dummy in the shop - I was thinking 'I'm SURE I've seen this before!' And then I remembered half watching The Omega Man one night when I was falling asleep. That scene was virtually the same wasn't it?
didn't "soylent green" have similarities to legend??
just curious.
JFKvsNixon 07-01-2008, 01:12 Omega man was an adaption of the book I am Legend, there was an earlier film staring Vincent Price.

not exactly, soylent green was a sort of post-apocalypse story, but in SG, folk chose to be euthanased. it was a bit like the fall of th e roman empire where it was "give them(the public) bread and circuses" what they didn't now was that the food they were being fed"Soylent" was made from processed people, the same people that went to these euthanasia chambers. each day had a different colour "Today is Soylent Red day!" "today is Soylent Green day" etc (hence the title)
I remenber my teacher, Mr Walker, telling us about the film, and giving us a precis of the plot, back in 1974, as a ten-year old, and it freaked me out, good style.
Charlton Heston's character breaks into the factory, making Soylent, and discovers this awful secret, and tries to get to the people and tell them, "Soylent Green is people!", but gets shot *sniff, cry* and dies *sniff, cry, cry*.
One of the most touching scenes in the film is where his friend (father?) Edward G Robinson goes into the euthanasia chambers, and some lovely calssical music plays, and sweet pastoral scenes are shsown on a massive screen for him, as he dies. it's also a huge contrast to the starkness of the other part of the story and the squalor and harshness outside.
