Maybe you ought to watch it then... Lloyd Grossman hasn't been in it for many years...

8pm That is a good time for me; I used to miss some of the 6pm ones.
I do like John (mmm) and Greg. They make a good team.

OOh I simply LOVE Masterchef ..indeed, I love most cookery programmes and I can't wait for the Jamie Oliver/Gordon Ramsey/? programme too!

I actually fancy Greg (Masterchef) .. find him incredibly sexy for some reason.

I love some of the food ideas that they prep, but this new format often leaves me cold when they 'test' the contestants on things that have stuff all to do with cooking. So what if they fail at cooking vindaloo for 200 men of the 4th Lancashire Rifles? So what if they triumph with a wok on a harbour tug in a force 9 gale.

Mind you, I'm still a bit bemused by the whole notion of cooking on telly where the only two important senses, taste and smell, don't work. ;)

Not sure they picked the right winner tonight. I liked the young boy rather than the trainee barrister.

My all time favourite was diggerdean. Was anyone else a fan of diggerdean?

I thought they were going to pick Reece, I would have. then again i've never owned my own restaurant and John Torode has so he clearly knows what hes doing

Pork Chop with CHOCOLATE sauce? You are having a laugh.

my mum used to make a pigeon recipe with chocolate sauce...sounds mingy, but it was actually very tasty.

you can have pork with prunes, apples or apricots, so i dont see why chocolate sauce wouldnt work in the sweetnees stakes.

Absolutely, theres quite a lot of south american food that involves chocolate

during the last series of perfection heston blumenthal (*swoon*) went to america to a chilli contest to try and find inspiration for his perfect chilli....and quite a few people there said chocolate was one of their key ingredients.

im guessing theyre using something slightly different to a bar of dairy milk, so i think your automatic pre-conception of what it would taste like is going to be way of the mark if you think of savoury plus cadburys.

You're right, they don't use galaxy!

When I say chocolate i mean cocoa beans crushed and mixed so its an incredibly dark and bitter taste

exactly! when my mum made the pidgeon and chocolate recipe (we're talking 1980's) the darkest chocolate with the greatest amount of cocoa she could find at the supermarket was cadburys bournville chocolate.

now, the range is much greater...but i think she still uses bournville for chocloate truffles!

And about time too!

But prok chops with chocolate sauce, what were they thinking when they put that through?

But they weren't putting the meal through, they were putting the chef through and they could see his potential.
I echo everything above about chocolate being a key ingredient in many cuisines (especially combined with bitter juniper), and apparently the pork was cooked perfectly.

From what i saw of yesterday's bunch, any of the three chaps form Monday would have beaten them in a cook-off!

The pork may have been cook perfectly but how hard is that?

Tis verrr yummy!

Did you see greg last night when he was eating that chocolate pudding, I thought he'd end up in A&E, having the huge spoon removed from his stomach.

The pork may have been cook perfectly but how hard is that?

Judging from other contestants on this show, quite hard...

They were also applauding his imagination and culinary vision... and I think they were proved right in the subsequent meals and wish they had chosen him instead of the barrister bloke... ah well.

LJB23
09-01-2008, 12:24
I think they chose the barrister bloke simply because he was older. I think they thought the pork chop man had time to learn more, he only looked about 16!
Anyone remember dean though, that young lad, was in the final and lost to peter, I thought that was plain wrong!

The pork may have been cook perfectly but how hard is that?Under pressure when you're going to be judged on it and you have limited time and one attempt? Quite hard i would imagine

I notice the programme has been re-named Masterchef.

The previous series of the new format have been named Masterchef Goes Large.

EVERYONE thought that was wrong. The BBC had to post an explanation of why Peter won on their website as there were so many complaints!
