My aunt has just rung me up to see if I could tell what's gone wrong with her PC but I couldn't, so now I'm seeing whether anyone on here does.

She was using it as normal when suddenly the screen (CRT) lost the image and split into 4 horizontal bands - light at the bottom and dark at the top - and a vertical white line which moves from right to left when the mouse is moved. She's rebooted but the problem remains. Any Ideas what's happened?

Many thanks.

It does it during booting too, so no safe mode. I don't think she would have suddenly gone above the screens resolution as she was just looking at e-mails.

Good thinking about the cable. I assume it's on-board graphics.

guess thats worse unless as been said could be monitor have a look maybe its had a card added at some time and onboard disabled that would give you option to ruling graphics out by trying the other socket.

Anyway she could test the monitor with a different PC?
