Why do they do this? I know it's not normal.
I took my car to Reg Vardy on 4 Jan with this problem and they replaced the front brake pads.
Then 3 weeks later (i'd not used the car very much during the 3 weeks) there was a grinding noise so i took the car back to Reg Vardy. They said the rear calipers had seized on and the rear brake pads were fully worn. Eventually got one caliper freed, one replaced and new rear brake pads.
But eversince I picked the car back up the brakes are squeeling again.
I know i'm going to have to take the car back, but could anyone give me some advice before I do?
Car is a Citroen C5 (51) reg.

not using the car for 3 weeks at a stretch if it's out in the weather gives time for the rear brakes to seize from rust. If they stayed seized whilst you drove it to the garage it might have worn the pads down.
But if not then it's possible that the shoes were nearly ready to be changed anyway, they wouldn't have checked them when they did the front as it means taking the hub apart.
If they are still squeeling take it back and let them work it out, it could be the caliper seizing again.

If the pads are new, it's common for them to squeal for a while until they "bed in".
The noise should go away after a few days of normal use. If it persists, see your doctor - sorry, mechanic
Thanks for the advice.
Brakes are still squeeling, it's really embarassing!
I'm going to have to take it back - again.

it is the brakes squeeling and not the fan belt?
Just a thought.....

Stick some copper grease on your brake pads??
I'm pretty sure that worked for my mate.

On the piston side, NOT on the pad side:thumbsup:

Is your car on disc brakes all round or disc at the front and drum at the back? (Hopefully the former!). If so check to see what type of brake pads have been fitted - if semi-metalic you may just have to live with squeals :(

That's the problem with using main dealers like Reg Vardy. They tend to provide p**s poor service and charge the Earth for it. You would be best to use a small local garage, recommended by friends/neighbours etc. These types of businesses rely on this bread and butter type work and will always do an A1 job,in my experience.

I used the bloke at Fir Vale recently - just before the bottom of Herries Road near the lights - very cheap and great service too - nothing too much trouble.
