Anyone lived in Edinburgh? What's it like? Are there houses and stuff?

Here's a useful site

Why Edinburgh?

Glasgow's miles better :D

Perth is rather nice too, and property prices are very sensible

Take your winter thermals the place is freezing for most of the year. House prices have shot up with the Scottish Parliament being there and friends of mine who live up there found it a lot more sensible to buy somewhere in one of the commuter towns where prices were more sensible.
The places along the coast like North Berwick, Musselborough? are also going silly with prices so look to the North and West of Edinburgh, try to find somewhere on the rail route though as commuting into the city by car is getting steadily worse.

Edinburgh is ok, but one way system a nightmare by car. Glasgow is better. I lived in Stirling, Dundee and Denny. Dundee is a dive. AVOID! Stirling is pleasant but expensive. Beware racism is rife. They can be unpleasant to English people, black and mixed race people and Muslims. I ended up marrying a scot, and his parents and their friends were disgusted as I am half black. Dundee is overtly racist.

Just my experience of living there for several years..

Glasgow has more one way systems than Edinburgh !!! Centre of Edinburgh is not one-way !

Im from Edinburgh, i only moved out coz I wanted to go to more gigs and clubs, so i moved to London. It's a great place to live, but soooo expensive now compared to when i left 6 years ago ! IMHO Glasgow is quite a scarey place. I socialised there quite a few times, but found it quite arrogant and rough.

Like all cities there are pockets of racism in Dundee - same as there are areas where you wouldn't visit even if you are a white Scot! The areas around the university/west end are fairly ok, but avoid some of the more outlying areas especially if you have an English accent. Edinburgh is a fabulous city - if you are lucky (rich) enough to live somewhere like the New Town, or Stockbridge. However, it has its problem areas just like anywhere else.

We have friends at Bridge Of Allen(sp?). It's a lovely place and Edinburgh is easily commutable.
