Someone in our office has got that "sprrroiinggg!" noise off an old game show ("Catchphrase", I think) on their mobile to alert them every time they get a text message. This was mildly amusing the first time it went off, but the novelty tends to wear off after the 752th time.

Can anyone else think of a more annoying "text alert" noise?

Yes, my mum has one that goes "message, Message, MESSAGE!!" which gets repeatedly louder and stretchier each time the word "message" is said. She thinks it's fantastic. I'm ashamed she's my mum :(

A couple of players in our football team recorded on each others mobiles them screaming into into the phone" text message" like you say Basil it was funny the first time but every time after that it is just extremely annoying.

Late at night, I was alone in the house and I could hear a man's voice coming from the kitchen :shocked: eeeek!!!

Needless to say I changed my text alert to something less likely to scare the living carp out of me :hihi:

The 'voice' ones really bug me. I like a delicate little ping or a buzz.

Oddly enough for a radio amateur, I really dislike the ones that sound out 'SMS' in Morse Code. Mainly because machine generated Morse code is really unpleasant to listen to, especially when it's created in digitally and coming through a nasty, tinny speaker...

I used to have that on my phone but it drove me crackers so i removed it. I quite like the whistling one that some people have got on there phone though.

I stick with the standard nokia beep beep, noise that i'm not expecting makes me literally jump.

I'm generally irritated by virtually all the 'amusing' ones so mine just makes a little swishing noise when I get a text and I've got an old phone 'ring' as my ring tone. I like my phones to sound like phones.

One of my neighbours has the theme to 'Bod' as their ringtone at the moment- I don't know who it is but I know I can hear it from inside my house!
