Insults cause wars, fights, murder, hate, resentment, divorce, broken homes, split families, people refusing to speak to each other for the rest of their lives. Surely, the ones who are always putting others down, must know to expect a reaction either physical or otherwise.

Personally, if someone offends me in that way, I don’t want to know them and avoid them like the plague, all I ask is that others show me a little respect as a human being with feelings, as I show them the same respect.

Why do some people seem to think, it is their prerogative and right to insult others, leading to humiliation and degradation of that person, there is legislation forbidding anyone to incite racial hatred and can carry a prison sentence, why not have the same protection for those who are the victims of vicious verbal attacks.

**** OFF (sorry couldn't resist it) Its called freedom of speech old boy - no offence. Its good to be able to vent a speen once in a while - it sounds to me the problem might lie in the forgiveness rather than the initial ejaculation

hmmm! can see exactly what you mean halevan ... although, i've noticed that the same people who reserve the right to "speak as tbey find" are always so shocked and amazed when anyone does it them ...

I always thought freedom of speech applied to being able to voice your thoughts about government, laws and other such things, not the ill mannered right to insult, humiliate and hurt other people's feelings ... no offence miniminch of course .... :)

Insulting people is solely to make people feel bad about themselves, for no particular reason... and to be honest, life is too short to spend time and effort making someone feel bad.

who exactly thinks that? Offends you is quite different to insults you...

I read somewhere that if someone regularly insults or offends another, it's either because they're experiencing problems themselves and find you a 'safe bet' to dump on in order to vent their frustrations or;
they're inept in some way and use insulting/offending tactics as put downs in order to make themselves feel better.
