Cheeky gits! They have made a formal planning / licencing objection on the basis that the venue will increase levels of drunk & disorderly behaviour in the city centre. This from the people that own Embrace, that den of alcohol fuelled chavs.
Even the police didnt object.

I don't get why they're objecting. It'll serve a completely different croud to those who go to Embrace.

Also, Embrace is getting knocked down in a few years, so it shouldn't exactly affect them. :hihi:

Its already being converted so its too late to object on the planning, and if the police didnt object to the licencing, they dont have a prayer.

I was hoping the Roxy would be too, it is one of the most hideous buildings in Sheffield.

I quite like the look of it (well, I imagine I will when it's done up), but it's absolutely **** at street level, and the car park and the odeon look terrible.

I think as part of the redevelopment of the complex, they should make the area between the odeon and the roxy into a nice open space (and easy to access from arundel gate), with views over to park hill (well, it should be nice once it's been done up :hihi:).

we all no that the only reason they objected is simply because they dont want the Competition if sheffield ever wants to compete with the nightlife other cities then we need stuff like this!!

And Crystal, that other den of alcohol fuelled chavs.

It's not uncommon for other clubs and bars to object to new clubs/bars......they want to keep all of the Sheffield nightlife market to themselves....

To be honest, I'm surprised that someone wants to put the money in to reopen it, but the sort of venue they're proposing sounds good to me.

It will give this whole end of town a fresh lease of life for sure.....we expect to see a significant boost in trade as many rock bands play the various Carling Academy's all over the country.....

Brook leisure!........do me a favor, they have the two biggest drinking holes in the town centre.Hopefully they will close and and go somewere else and we can have a couple of decent places to drink in town that don't charge the earth for crap beer and cocktails.

Maybe Brook were hoping to get their paws on it to replace Embrace when it goes. Imagine the Roxy full to capacity with the Embrace crowd described above. The planned venue sounds interesting.
