I was 17 years old in 1956.. And I was one of many who caught the Asian flu virus..I was an apprentice working at Newton Chambers at the time..and I remember nearly 50% of the workforce in the Machine and Fitting Shop, went down with the Flu..I was in bed for almost 2 weeks and when I recovered my Mother and Sister had to help me walk down the stairs..when I returned back to work I discovered that one of my mates had died from it, along with Thousands of people in the Sheffield area..Ive had Flu several times since then but never as bad as that time. Can anybody remember this?.

Yes I was 21 and remember it well.
I didn't have it as bad as most people but remember a young man of 18 on the Manor died of it.
The funny thing about it was that after that I nevr had a cold for yrs, I think the flu had made me immune. so-------
When a notice came round the place I worked saying they ere doing a test for the ccmmon cold and wanted volunteers I nearly went.
2 wks free board and spending money and a cocktail of germs etc they did not tell you about. The name of the place started with P (it's evading me)
