last year was so much better than this year!!
Halfway though the night they shut the downstairs
due to lack of punters.
The dove & rainbow was that better
Did all the rock fans go to the corp???

Is this the Lord Nelson at Arundel Gate, or the Nelson on a sidestreet off Eyre St. further down?

I assume it was the former, but if it is the latter, it can't be easy at present, as it is surrounded by building sites including one on what was a convenient car-park for the lower end of The Moor...

It was a pretty good night actually, we been closed since New Years day and still recovering, re-open tomorrow at Noon:) Busier than NY Eve 2006 at the Dove, but I think a lot of people may have gone to Corp that night too.......

I did call in at The Dove first for a couple and it was fairly quiet at that time but left early as my friend wanted to go to The Nelson I think maybe a lot of people did go to Corp didnt bother as OH was working at 7am New Years Day.

I remember when D and R used to be really good. New Years eve parties where legendary and the place was always packed with friendly faces.

Now it just all seems abit dull. Popped in on NYE but only stayed for one drink so went to the Nelson, much better crowd.

i went down the nelson with some mates and would like to thank the staff for spending new years eve behind the bar selling drinks but the music was very 80s based so if you drink in there a lot no surprize there!!!!! i did ask them to play a few new songs but got the same dj sh it after all we put money over your bar and ask 4 1 song to be played and i get the feeling you will only play what you want
not what the punters ask 4
cant wait till next year as i know where i will be drinking new years eve

hi, was waiting for you to comment ;)

Reason for not playing your song:
1. It was NYE not a normal Saturday, songs we were playing were the 'classics', if you get my meaning
2. I'd never heard of the band CD that you brought in and I doubt most of the other customers had either
3. I did give the CD a listen and it seemed to me that you'd picked the slowest song on it
4. After all the times you've insulted DJ Lez for not playing Metal Church for you, I went out and bought 2 of their CDs specifically for you! You know this. And yet you have never asked me to play them!

If you'd like to bring that CD back in on any other weekend I'd happily play a track off it for you.

Who is this band out of interest? I get one girl who comes in about once a month with a handful of CD's and wants me to play trax for her all night..all really obscure 'limited edition' (read demo pressings) import Euro-Metal that really should remain obscure......

I think I know who that might be!

Anyway, the band was Daughtry , I believe. Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance, but Glen (who I shared the DJing with on NYE) hadn't heard of them either.

Not on NYE, but any other Saturday, fine!

2.well you have never heard of daughtry so here is the link
http://www.myspace.com/daughtry
here give them an ear, the song I wanted was one of the heaviest tracks on the cd I asked for track 7 [what i want] featuring slash from G&R
3.yes I did thank you 4 playing metal church this was a song I wanted played 15 years ago by lez and that is why i give you the money 4 the cd not your fault and that was good of you to take the time to do that for me :)
4.The night I spoke to you [sat] lez has been playing a lot of different stuff over the last few weeks and played a cd I gave him :o by a band called airbourne [AC/DC rip off] as a DJ u may have the code from roadrunner records to download it ;)
Airbourne will be at the corp sat 16 of feb as on their myspace
5. Last of all you said I hide behind my computer if I did you would not know who I am so here is my myspace as well :|

6. Sorry Tim I tell it as I see it like it or not
I went to firefest last year and the rig after the gig
six songs into the night they played daughtry i did not ask for it :) they just played it, as it says outside your pub
if you want to hear it ask for it all I ask is you do that
of course I would never come up to the DJ with 20 prom Cd's and ask you to play them all as some people may do then call you all the names under the sun if you don't play the lot

Daughtry is an American Music Award-winningGrammy-nominated rock band from North Carolina, formed by former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry in 2006. Their self-titled debut album was released on November 21, 2006. The disc reached #1 for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard music chart, and sold more than 3 million copies. Their album is also the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan history. The first single from the album, "It's Not Over", was the eighth most played song across all formats on U.S. radio in 2007, and their second single from the album, "Home", was the tenth most played song in the U.S. of 2007...(courtesy WIKEPEDIA)

I have played 'It's not over' the single a few times when it was in the US rock charts last Summer as I play a lot of US rock chart material early evening at weekends, and on Mondays, but I am not familiar with the album or any other songs......cant remember what they sound like now either as not played it since last Summer.....

They are still very unknown over here, it used to be the case that the US rock chart was light years in front of the UK rock chart..so see what happens in 2008.........

I do try to play as much new stuff as I can fit in, but from about 8pm my entire set list is normally requests. AND, it's often about 6 hours worth of requests that I have to try and fit into 3 hours.
My point was - not on NYE, any other saturday fine.

2.well you have never heard of daughtry so here is the link

Ah, confusion. Pretty certain you asked me for track 6.

Well that was lucky for you, but not being a mind reader I can't anticipate what everyone in the room is wanting to hear without them writing it down.

AND our sign for Friday & Saturday nights on the outside of The Nelson actually says "you name it, we might play it" ;)

I think they are ok nothing fantastic but better than some new stuff about.

Still it wouldn't do for everyone to like the same would it?:)

Just a thought on not playing stuff because DJ's havn't heard of it I
think thats probably not a good thing, I imagine long ago in the past a DJ going what band Led Zeppelin never heard of them :hihi:

Personally, I like DJs that play me stuff I haven't heard before. Why do I want to hear songs that I've heard 1000 times before?

Daughtry are superb. If you like them and also like the sounds of the Goo Goo Dolls and Nickelback then give Hinder a listen to also. They're big in the States right now.

Oh I know what you mean, it infuriates me sometimes when the same people come in every week and ask for the same 3 songs, EVERY WEEK!

But then if you don't play requests (and try and fit in new stuff), you get a thread started on here moaning that we don't play requests!

You can't win

Seems Daughtry are just one of those that slipped past my radar

ignore requests? (for bands I've already heard of, such as Metal Church and Daughtry)
and play bands you've not heard of before? hmm

And yes, I know Airbourne, we have 2 FREE tickets give-away on 6th Feb to see them @ CORP
