View Full Version : Best Places in Sheffield for Entertaining Young Kids?
Help!! My brother and his wife are visiting me soon complete with four year old niece. We are looking for somewhere entertaining in Sheffield to take her for the afternoon
She is into, and I quote, 'cafe's, cakes, anything pink, music, dressing up and dancing'! Anyone got any ideas please?!
ladyovmanor 12-02-2005, 20:02 there is a place at barnsley called canon hall farm that is really good .you got the park and all the animals that you can feed and can buyt the food there , I think its about £3 or something like that for adults and less for kids its really good .
Heeley City Farm is good for kiddies or so I hear... Either there or the Farm up at Graves Park.
Squashie28 12-02-2005, 21:15 Me and my boyfriend took my son to an indoor adventure playground called Just For Kids it was just off Bramall Lane, near the Sheffield United football ground.
It was really good it had loads of climbing aparatus, bouncy castles and a ball pool, my son loved it.
It wasnt that expensive either and there was an area for the parents to sit and relax and have a cuppa.
Hope this is useful for you.
Regards
Joanne
clogginchris 12-02-2005, 21:28 Wentworth Garden Centre has a great farm attached to it. Lots of animals to feed and stroke, and lots of toys to play on. My 3 year old granddaughter loves it.
Yes, like Squashie can deffo give 5 stars to Just for Kids, next to Sheff Utd ground (John Street side).
Enjoy.
roobarbpie 13-02-2005, 08:54 I recomend Magna at Templeborough.
There are also lots of softplay centres. eg "tots to tens", Pirateship, Wadsley Bridge, or the Mega Centre. It depends whereabouts you are really, as they're all about the same standard.
Eureka, in Halifax: Fun interactive science centre(lots of dressing up) - aimed at under 8's.
Millenium Gallery/ Winter Gardens/ Graves gallery in town.
The Children's Information Centre in town might have more ideas. HTH. :) :)
yup, just for kids (john street) is pretty good. as is the pirate ship (memory fails me...baxter road?). heeley city farm's good to pass around an hour, but there's not that much to keep 'em going longer. graves park farm is better in some ways - a fair bit bigger...and with the advantage of being in the middle of a park.
I recomend Magna at Templeborough
Tis ok for any age as well, and will cost around £21 for 2 adults and 1 child. Take a coat as it is cold inside.
After Heeley City Farm there's the climbing rock and playground over Taggys Field, 2 mins walk away.
Then Highfield Adventure playground just off London/Abbeydale Road by Sharrow Junior School.
Norton park and animal area, complete with ducks in pond just begging to be fed, steer clear of rats though.
Tuesday is cheap n cheerful day at the Odeon and there's loads of films released for the school holiday.
Megacentre, Just For Kids, The Farm and Space Zone are all pretty decent indoor play areas, plus there are a few attached to pubs up at Ecclesall and Dronfield.
Rother Valley Country Park, ducks, geese, bike riding and a decent playground or even hire a boat and row out.
There's a fair coming to Hillsborough soon too.
Magna is good if your attitude is, if you aren't into it the kids probably won't be either although if you have a quick read up first you can decipher if it's you thing. I recommend it though.
I run a playscheme and these are all tried and tested :)

And she is four?! She sounds just like me! :hihi:
I was trying to think of something a bit more 'girly' than places like Heeley City Farm, but I'm a bit stumped I'm afraid - it's hard when it's just a one off. There are some craft and reading activities at libraries and galleries etc though

But they seem to only last for an hour or so at a time.
The marzipan sculpting sounds great - might go along myself!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions - the animal farm sounds great - perhaps a few lambs at this time of year for added aaahh factor. I'll let you know how it goes!
