Got the EF 24 - 105 f/4 L IS USM to go along with the EF 70 - 300 f4 - 5.6 IS USM. Only took a few pics with the new L lens but so far im well pleased with it.

So selling the 17-85 to try and recoup a few £££ back.

I've the 24-105, nice everyday lens, far easier to carry around all day than the 24-70.

I love my 24-105. You made a very good choice.

If you can find one on ebay, I'd recommend the 50mm f1.4 EF lens that's currently around £60. It's an absolute steal.

Aside from the 24-105 I'm prime lenses all the way - the quality is just sooo much better (in my opinion, and experience from medium format).

Don't forget to look into a canon rebate if you bought the 24-105 by 31 December (£35 to add to your funds :) )

Oh, and welcome to the L club. Just be careful - before you know it you'll be wanting another :P

I was thinking of getting the 70-200 L f/4 IS USM, which im sure is a awesome lens, but im more than happy with the images im getting from my EF 70-300 so couldnt really justify spending that much even with the £100 cashback.

Although for some reason i not all that keen on the red band L lenses have.

The 70-200s and 70-300 are completely different beasts, at least you will not need a body building course with the f4 version ;)

As Grissom says, "L" lenses are addictive :)

Yeah i wouldnt fancy lugging the f2.8 version around with me. No doubt i will end up getting the IS version of the 70-200 f/4 at some point, maybe a Christmas 2008 present for myself ! but for £300 im as happy as a very happy person with my 70-300.

I didnt realize this taking photos lark would be so addictive, i now have 2 expensive hobbies photography & cycling, which no doubt will keep costing me £££££ for years to come.

The 70-200 2.8 on a 1-series body isn't too bad - I often use it for my walkaround lens. One of these strap (http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/30/products_id/141)s makes it feel lighter as it has some bunginess to it. Hardly notice is slung on shoulder except when bashing lens hood into children (they never seem to look where they are going - but do afterwards !!!) :)

Ouch!

I can see the bump after the kid has walked into your kit!

I have the same setup and find the Optech straps with elastic shock absorbers to really help spread the load, especially when running to a location with camera and lens bashing up and down.
