View Full Version : What happened to the community spirit?
Andy the dj 01-01-2008, 14:05 I was reading a thread that the poster said was put on the wrong thread,it was about a woman on the supertram blocking the doors with a pram, when asked politley to move she gave the lady a load of abuse,i suppose if it happened this morning or yesterday it is kind of history so it kind of fits in this forum.
But i think people are a lot less friendly and careing than they used to be.
what happened to the community spirit or love thy neighbough.
the last time i loved my neighbough i nearly got divorced thou. LOL:hihi:

manners and dignity cost nothing mate perhaps they will realise this when they collect there dole money...
I think community spirit died out with back to back housing as when families grew up and got married they moved in a house a few doors away or a street away and people not only watched thier own kids but also Mrs so an so's next door. People were not so well off so helped each other out when things were good or bad, but then through work or other reason people moved further away from home and didn't neighbour like before and with the community spirit went the manners and respect for others.
Hello friends
There are so many ill mannered poeple about these days, so many people that have got serious bad attitudes. I mean why are so many people so angry these days? Of course there are nice poeple about but to me these people are becoming a dying breed. It's not only the youth, but (so called) adults in there 20s/30s that pass there poor manners and behaviour onto their children. If the parents are like it what chance have their children got? Now the Labour Goverment are going to teach these kids respect in school, surely its the "duty" of the parents to teach respect and good manners not the teachers. I was always brought up to say please and thank you and to resect your elders. You only have to open the Sheffield Star on any day to see some low life scum bag with a criminal record as long as your arm getting let off because they've got A.D.H.D or some joke shop excuse like that.

Its not what happened, it's what's happening.
Instead of taking the time to complain, say hi to that person you walk past everday, that familiar face, or even better, the unfamiliar face, make it familiar.

If i thought it would make any sort of difference to these people then I would. I like to think I have good manners and attitude. Maybe if we complained more and more people listened then things would change for the better! People arn't stupid they know right from wrong even at a very young age. The way that some people in our community behave I find quite unacceptable!

I'll point out that you have complained about so many people been angry, then said, maybe if we complained a bit more things would get better. Isn't complaint a form of anger?
Of course I'm angry about a great many things, but I'm angry inwardly. I don't think I've got a attitude like the world owes me something. Some people are angry but they dont know what their angry about. Thats a bad attitude isn't it?

It is a bit, but we are all like that at times, just think about when you walk through town and someone smiles at you, it makes you feel good and you smile at other people, and its like an exponential explosion of freindly smiles, stuff like that is better.
it takes more muscles to frown than to smile aswell
ah, thats great, your Optimism makes me smile. There's alot of kind people on here and you seem to be one.

here here and well said
Your right. I think it goes further than that. There's absolutly no punishment or deterant for these peoples actions. If there was they'd loose there job, but many, if any do not have a job so they've nothing to lose. Endless fines and slaps on the rist are not enough.! These peoples fines are ultimatly paid by us anyway, we pay there benefits out of out taxes so we end up paying there fines for them. Build more prisions and get them filled up so law abiding people can live in peace and safty.
the kids these days have got no respect for any thing or any one
I'm a boomer and I cant help but wonder if it's our generation that screwed things up ?
