Right I know this will make me look really stupid ....
i want a tv in my bedroom - do I need an aerial or can i have an indoor one
and also do I need an aerial if I buy a set top box?
Sorry to be dim but Im just hopeless with this kind of stuff
Im not the worlds leading expert in this field, however....If you want to just watch the terestrial channels (BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Ch4 and CH5) then a simple indoor arial should sufice. If you wish to watch the digital channels like ITV2 Sky One etc..then you will need either a digital arial, or a set top box - like Sky or Freeview. The problem with both of these is that you will need wires somewhere. I suggest that you contact a local TV shop, to quote on the individual layout on your house. Also you may consider contacting Sky as i know that they do a multi-room thing where you can have sky in your living room and bedroom for example.
I know that if you have Sky you dont need an areal as it comes through a satelite dish. If you wanted Freeview you would need a digital areal and a set top box i believe?
Let me know if this helps?
A =)
It depends where you are and how strong the signal is. It is possible to get Freeview using an indoor aerial but it only in the best signal ares. You will probably be able to pick up the normal channels with an indoor aerial anywhere in Sheffield as the signal seems to pretty good everywhere.
I have never had a good reception with an indoor ariel.
And lived in high green, Chapeltown, Aston and Dinnington.
We have a digital box (Freeview) and you need really good reception before you will get BBC channels, slightest weather fluctuation, and the picture goes off.
Depends what you want.
If all you want is a TV in your bedroom for watching analog TV (BBC1 & 2, ITV1, C4 and possibly Five) then all you need your TV and an indoor aerial tuned in right - it probably wont be fantastic quality but usually more than watchable unless you're in a poor signal area.
If however you want to connect a freeview box to your TV then you will need an external aerial, and a good one at that if you want to be sure of getting all the channels.
Obviously if you want Sky - you have to have an external dish (and the decoder box and subscription).
