It depends on the lie and the situation, whether or not it's to spare someones feelings.
For example if they turn up with a horrendous bouffant and ask you if you like their new do. Do you say a) no you look like a bad drag queen, or b) yes very nice.

Those who feel the need to lie are clearly overcompensating for something that's missing in their lives.

I was saying to Madonna only this morning, while cruising over San Francisco bay, that I find it tacky, tasteless and unecessary. She agreed as she popped another cheesey wotsit.

I think we've all been quilty on the odd occasion of telling the odd tiny little porker - usually to save our bacon or to protect the feelings of someone else - but I have little time for people who perpetually tell lies.

you need a good memory to tell lies and get away with it, my memory is shocking. I can not say i never lie as that would be lieing. I lied to my daughter that father christmas was coming, im going to lie when shes asks me where her hamsters gone (which died on thursday, shes been at her dads so doesnt know) but i will only tell the little white lies to protect my daughter. I dont lie to my partner or anyone else

I work with a compulsive liar.. every bloody thing he says is a load of tosh. He basically acts like a 5 year old, making up stories etc... And he's about 35 years of age!

best thing is when you know someone is lying and you sit there listening to there stories thinking 'lying get' but just 'mmm' and 'ar' and 'really' at there every word.

My favourite is telling my OH iv had that top/shoes for ages its just that iv just never worn them. he believes me so either hes stupid or im a good porky piar.

It depends. I am horrifically truthful when it matters, I am a firm believer in "Tell the truth and shame the Devil" and pride myself on not bullsh*tting people, However, if it's a work thing where I've got something to gain then I'll lie like a cheap watch..... probably because it doesn't matter.

I try not to tell lies. Honesty is very important to me and I will think less of someone if I find out they have lied to me.

Like Purdy, if someone asks me to comment on a new look, or new clothes etc, I will try to find something positive to say about it, or try to keep quiet if possible, but I am in deep trouble with my mother in law for not liking the pullover she bought for my husband and for being unable to lie when asked outright.

I lie all the time, but only for the sake of my fellow human beings. I lie when:

1.) the person can't do anything to change/improve the situation and the truth would be hurtful to them: Spinach in the teeth = tell the truth. Looks fat in bridal gown on wedding day = lie like a rug.

2.) the truth would cause the person unnecessary distress: My mom, who can't drive anymore, asks if my 35-minute commute to work was dangerous because of the icy roads = lie, and lie some more. A fellow driver asks same question = tell the truth.

I'm pathologically honest, but if you take it to the ultimate degree then most bits of tact that make a painful truth bearable are at best a bit of spin and at worst white lies. So do I tell lies? Probably, and if I do then it means that everyone else does too.

Ive told a few lies in my time, especially since i became a parent :hihi:, theres some things kids dont need to know :D

obviously everyone has told a lie at some time or other but i do pride myself on not telling lies, there is no point, it really does get you no where, unless its a white lie, like your supprising the other half etc, thats not a lie in my opinion.
Another thing which could be classed as not a lie is holding your real thoughts as to not offend or hurt some one...

I tell lies everyday in my job when people phone up and I know that my boss just doesn't want to speak with them, so I lie and tell them he's out/on the other line/ not at his desk etc etc and I am sure a lot of you secretaries out there can identify with this.

I also told a big lie this Christmas but it was a good lie. For Christmas me, my OH, his mum and sister went to spend Christmas at a big hotel in Bridlington. My friend also lives in Bridlington but I kidded her that we were staying at home and his mum and sister were coming to us. I felt really awful telling all the porkies and nearly slipped up a couple of times, but the look on her and her husband's face when me and my OH knocked on their door Christmas Day morning to surprise them was definitely worth it. My friends said that no Christmas present could ever compare with the the one we gave them.

And, yes, she has forgiven me for all the 'lies' I told her.
