As the title says I have a friend coming from the States for a week on Jan 15th.

Does anyone have some suggestions to fill the time in Sheffield and surrounding area.....?

I already will have 2 tickets to the derby match, that should be an eye opener for him!

Take him out to the sticks. I had a Canadian friend visit a couple of years ago and I took out to Stanage - she loved it.

See The Dambusters then go out to Derwent to show where it was filmed. Ditto Full Monty.

Could probably make a day or two of Kelham Island museum, Weston park Museum and the Winter Gardens/Millennium Galleries/Graves Art gallery (and maybe the Botanical Gardens).

Also, maybe a play at the Crucible or Lyceum, or something at the City Hall.

I usually find that when friends from overseas visit, I tend to take them to the historical places, and usually where I haven't been myself, that way we all get a good day out. It also depends on where they come from. When my Indiana friends come over, it will incorporate a lot of hills, they don't have a clue what a real hill is LOL

Also, see if there is a tour of the Castle remains at the Castle Market etc. Americans tend to love our history. :)

Take them up high to a view, surprise view or Mam Tor, pub in Hathersage for lunch perhaps. Take them down low, perhaps hire a bike or go in one of the caves in Derbyshire.

The Devils arse in Castleton is quite dramatic.

Take him to a traditional British chemist for a pack of Imodium. He might need it for the flight back! Seems like everyone's getting the trots round here.

Depends where he is from, if he is from the bronx- then its a night out on west st...should feel right at home
If he is from L.A. or florida then a day at skeggy or cleethorpes should show him what sandy beaches really should be like :hihi:

Just show him what you love about your hometown.
Take him to local places to eat, not mcdonalds or kfc. He can get that back home.
My mate from Cali loved hiking so spent a day out in the peaks. We also went to the museums and art gallery. Maybe take your friend to a Blades or Wednesday match (who ever you prefer) to let him get a taste of real football as the MLS is kinda pants.

We took our mate drinking every night, but hes also a big drinker and obsessed with the British pub culture, its something we lack in the States.
