Isn't a passport photo booth okay? If so, there's loads about!

What's 'Special' about these photos then, are they holographic or something? 8-)

Not sure whether it's the same with US applications, but the UK Passport Office will now take Inkjet printed photos as long as the print resolutions is at least 1200x1200dpi and it's on 'suitable' paper.

You could print it at any size/aspect you wanted.

Worth looking into?

No. US Embassy clearly state inkjet prints are not acceptable.

Sorry for the delay, I had to wait for my neighbour to return.
This is who did her's. £9.99 in 10 minutes.

From the US embassy's application support documentation..

"A Note About Digitized Photographs: If you choose to submit digitized photographs, they must meet the passport photograph requirements or they will be rejected. Some printers will produce and unacceptable photograph in which the dots are seen, or the image is grainy. Acceptable photographs have a continuous tone image that is very photo-like."

Sounds to me like they WILL accept homebrew photos, if they're of good enough quality.

Of course, it's probably safer and easier to jump on a bus to Moorfoot and get it done professionally 8-)

Not arguing, but I was going on past conversations and this from their FAQ's:

"Will you accept vending machine photographs or photographs printed on a home computer?
No, we will not accept such photographs.

Arguing? Nah. We're both right.
It's the US Embassy that's wrong

8-)

Just trying to give George1 another option to consider.

I have had two J-1 visas using passport booth photos and they never said anything. Dont blame me if you try this and get unlucky and have to reapply though...

Any idea where can i have a photo taken for US visa?

It's 2 inches square size. and i'm not sure this is the same size we can get from normal photo kiosk.

Thanx.

If you are going to the Embassy to get the visa, there is a place 2 mins walk away on Oxford Street opposite Selfridges that specialises in photos for US visas, it's a very quick while you wait service and pretty cheap. You can also look at all the photos of famous people they have taken for their US visas that they have on the wall.

The camera shop near to Collegiate Crescent will take these size photos. I can't remember the name of it but it is just up from the Nursery Tavern.

The photo place at moorfoot (can't remember the name - it's in the same row as the chippy) should be able to do it for you - they've got a digital camera and PC setup so should be able to size it to whatever you want.

Got some passport photos done there recently, would recommend them.

all the stuff they put in about the photo having to be a certain size and taken in a certain way etc - doesn't actually really matter. you can use a normal passport photo and they process it the same - i learnt this the hard way!

BTW - take a large book with you when you go for your appointment at the embassy, i was there for four hours and had a 2 minute interview.

Can I just hijack this thread slightly and ask who does and does not need a visa for going to the US? Will it only be those who eventually get Biometric passports who need one?

I would also draw your attention to this paragraph if you are planning to visit the USA on a visa waiver flight!!

READ THIS...
The traveller MUST BE travelling on a valid, individual machine readable passport.

A woman from work only last week was refused at check in because her passport did not have a barcode!!

Her husbands and kids did - so they went ahead without her!!

2 days later, a further £1,000 spent, an overnight stay alone in Liverpool and she flew out to join them!!

You have been warned!!!

I used normal passport photos for both of mine, despite it saying they would reject it if I didnt use the correct size. Probably they cant be arsed to process it twice!
