What did the bugs do.. chomp your motherboard or summat?
Lol!

Another piece of advice mate- ditch Nortons.
Its ****e.

Get yourself Nod32 or F-Prot for viruses and also Agitnum Outpost for your firewall and see the difference.

Welcome back though!!

Spyware, adware, trojans, worms, virus's they've all come up in the ask an expert section of the forum. If you do a SEARCH not only will you find that you're not the only person to of suffered these annoying things but very helpfully you'll find links to free downloads of virus scans, free anti virus and several downnloads that deals with spyware and adware. For myself I particularily liked a link that fointed me at cwshredder as this dealt with a couple of annoying problems.[B]

Ad-Aware is a decent spyware shifter as well.

Seriously though.. Nortons dosent catch the main new viruses that come out- I've had quite a few slip thru the anti-virus with Norton 2004 and they have proper cocked my machine up to the extent that I had to format windows.

Nod32- you dont have no trouble at all.. it just sits there quietly waiting to pounce on owt that troubles it.

Top stuff.

PCWorld* prolly charge less than that, AND they'll have a scout round your disk looking for dubious content at no extra charge.

£150? I'm in the wrong business here. I removed £30 worth of tracking cookies from my own PC last night.

I learn't yesterday that a friend-of-a-friend bought a new computer from BigW and it took 2 hours for someone to remove all the virus's !. This is on a 'Brand New' computer that has never been used! :suspect:

To all you people out there what I forgot to mention was that it cost me £ 150 to have my computer sorted out but in the process I have had my graphic card changed.I have had a new power pack installed I have had a complete refit on my windows my pc is now brand new all for £ 150 where can you buy a pc for £ 150 not at pc world you cant. I will never go in pc world as they dont know what they are doing in there,I have just bought a epson R300 printer for £ 90 brand new in pc world the same printer costs £ 149.99 I dont deal in the big computer stores I go to the small outlets where I get a good deal.Take the ink for my printer pc world will charge me £100 for the set as it takes 6 cartridges my small outlet where I go charges me £ 25 for the set big difference I would say so you can keep your big stores there is other places than pc world to go too.

Well in that case it makes more sense now bigkev ;).
You only mentioned the viruses before though :suspect:. It looks like you paid nothing to get rid of any viruses and instead just got charged (not much)for the hardware you had fitted

Are you implying that BigW installs viruses on its PCs or that it sells 2nd hand PCs advertised as being new?? If so, be careful of committing libel.

Diskdepot.co.uk are/were doing a full set of R200/R300 compatible cartridges for £6.99 (6 cartridges)

That's a saving of £93.01 on Epson originals, that is.
;-)

I'd be curious to see an itemisation of what you had done though.

I can remember reading that if someone buys a new computer and the HD (for example) develops a problem, the owner will return the computer and can demand a new one be fitted. The supposedly damaged HD can then be tested for faults and if none are found, the HD can be wiped clean and used again.

Now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying BigW purposely installs viruses or indeed sells 2nd hand computers as new ones, but there are thousands of these HD's etc...lying around these factories. You don't really think they get thrown in the bin do you?.

Course they did, its Norton ANTI-VIRUS, it is designed to catch VIRUSES not Spyware. Spyware is something entirely different: If it was 15 tracking cookies its harmless enough, granted you probably don't want people to know which webpages you go to, but then its not exactly going to kill your computer off.
