Started off a few weeks ago trying to ween baby camrat. Started off ok, wasn't too much he didn't like.... now though nothing seems to be to his taste apart from the baby cerial he has in a morning and rice pudding we tried on him. Even the things he used to like he no longer will have. He just sits there and screams with it sat on his tongue.

This also seems to be co-inciding with his first teeth cutting could these two things be related?

Any tips?

yes it could be, all my kids went off food whilst teething
try addin the cereal and the rice pudding to other things
or try sweet potatoes......i dont know a kid that doesnt like these.
but be sure...he will eat when he is hungry
good luck

do you offer him anything for his teeth? teething ring/gel/calpol? if i were you i'd try giving him a small dose of calpol half an hour before you try to feed him, and see how he does, and compare it to how he does without the calpol. if it is his teeth he should be pretty good once the calpol has kicked in. not sure what else to say, really - don't give him teething gel when he's trying to eat, a numb mouth isn't a great way to teach him to eat. if it is his teeth you'll just have to put up with it as best as you can for a few weeks. how is he with banana? chunks of chilled banana (not too long in the fridge, they go black) worked quite well for babybaby.

good luck:)

How old is he? Both my boys went through stages of refusing to eat savories. Give it a week and try again :)

I must admit that babybonny was easy to wean because he has a very healthy appetite and we've never yet found anything he doesn't like. But, what I did was try not to rush too many different things and let him get used to one taste before introducing something else. After the babyrice I started him on the sweet potato (I used to bake them in the jacket and then puree them and mix in a bit of babyrice). It was all a bit of trial and error, I was worried about rushing him and getting the mixture too thick, but just took it steady and didn't rush it. The only thing with him is that he doesn't like food unless it's cold or at the most, tepid - so it may sound silly, but the food isn't too warm is it?

Oh, I also gave him a lot of mashed avacado too and he still loves that. Good luck!

We have tried him on a variety of food so that might be where we are going wrong, e thought that if you give him the same thing that he likes time and again he might not want to change to anything else.

I tried to get babybonny into a routine so that he knew what to expect and when, then make slight changes by adding different tastes once he'd got used to something. If babycamrat likes babyrice, have you tried mixing new flavours in with the babyrice - I did this a few times before introducing the new taste. BB still has a banana everyday (not mashed up any more though) and he still loves to have an avacado but he's developed quite a mature taste for his age (I think). He couldn't get enough smoked salmon yesterday - he's 18 months so I think he's ok with it, but didn't give him too much because of the salt content.

I'm probably still a bit paranoid about what I feed him, as much as possible it's got to be organic fruit and veg - he always has at least 5 portions of fruit/veg every day and no salt or refined sugar.

We used to do food first then his bottle, but had to change this around when he was screaming for food.

He didnt understand food was food and going to fill him, but he understood bottle is food!

Now we give bottle first then food!

Only a thought, as im a first time mum and its still all new!

Oh what joy it is a nightmare trying to ween.

We have had problems feeding from day one and I found baby lead weening the best. All I did was offer nice home cooked food which she turned her nose up the I looked on the Baby Centre site and decided to put normal finger foods in front of Emma and let her help herself.

One confesion however this is what I do when being super mom to be honest after about 3 weeks of Em turning her nose up I used to give her jars (hipp) as there isn't anything bad in them. If she are it so be it if she didn't we didn't force it.

As she has got older 14 months I leave her too it because if I try and feed her she won't eat it but if she does it herself we have a clean plate.

Good luck.

Some babies just don't take to eating solid foods for a long time. I remember (vaguely, it was 25 years ago) my daughter just wouldn't eat anything. I was only young myself and didn't have anyone to talk to about it so ended up giving her bottles for as long as she wanted. She's always been a fussy eater, even now - though she is a lot better these days.

I don't know whether this is related or not, but when I was pregnant with my daughter I went off most food and practically lived on tonic water for months. I went off anything milky/creamy and daughter doesn't like anything milky/creamy.

With babybonny though, I ate well and craved milky drinks and dairy products particularly cheese - guess what, baby bonny loves dairy produce, especially cheese!

What did you eat when you were pregnant? Did you go off any foods or did you crave any particular foods? Does this tie in with what babycamrat likes/dislikes?

Mrs Camrat tastes didn't really alter during pregnancy. She is a vegitarian, and although we have decided not to bring babycamrat up vegeterian, he doesn't seem to like the taste of meat (only tried fishermans pie and shepherds pie from jars at the moment though).

We are trying him on the hipp stuff, but it's mazing how he'll shout for more when it is one of the few things he likes that he is being fed, but trying to give him something new.... i's easy to break into the bank of england than get his mouth open!!!

Good luck I know it's hard but just keep at it - don't forget to come back to things though as he may like it today but tomorrow it maybe the best thing since sliced bread.
