Merry Christmas everyone! :)

Just wondered if anyone can help me and my mates plan what to do on NYE. We have gone into town and onto the Leadmill for the last 2 years running and we have enjoyed it each time.

However....over the last year our time at the Leadmill has decreased and we have spent most of our time in DQ.

So...now that NYE is approaching again, we are stuck on what to do. The Leadmill isn't really our scene anymore and DQ is a "hush hush guestlist only party" :(

Does anyone have any other ideas?
We love indie music. I've looked at the Plug but it seems to be just dance music so I can't see us going there...

Also does anyone know if every bar open past midnight is ticket only? e.g. The Forum, The Common Room, Bungalows and Bears... we love these bars so I can see us staying in them for New Year if we can.

Any advice would be great! xx

I'm going to Urban Gorilla at Nylon but you probably won't like the music as it's far from indie!

Not sure where to go beforehand though, we went to Takapuna last year which was really good and pretty cheap but was fancying something different! Don't really want to be in a club before 12 because they don't usually do anything special for midnight!

How come you dont feel the leadmill is your scene anymore? Do you feel the leadmill has changed or that your tastes have changed?

I think the Leadmill is lot more "uptight" than it used to be a few years ago, a lot of my mates have stopped going as a result.

Lights Down Low @ Penelopes looks like the best thing going on in town, club Shhh has a good night on also. There's also a large party in a warehouse going on.

....However, we have felt the clientelle @ Leadmill has changed alot....obviously to do with indie music going mainstream and we found alot of our friends/regulars from the Leadmill were heading off to other places....

Also, the music we like (and request) ...are not necessarily mainstream and hence never get played. :(

Have a house party! cheaper and you can play your own choice of music!

I guess the good news for you then is that "commerical" indie is on the slide now. All the bands responsible for indie going mainstream released fairly average follow-up albums and none of the new bands have enjoyed the same level of success of bands in 2004/2005 so I guess the leadmill will go back to its old self soon enough.

Anyway whatever you do have a good new years, personally I'll be in the leadmill DJing the indie room and having the time of my life! :D

I didn't realise you were a DJ there...sorry! lol. I didn't mean any offence to any Leadmill DJ with what I said...I understand why the nights/music have changed....its just one of those things! :)
