I just wondered if any of you were doing nightschool college course, and if yes, what subject(s) are you studying?

I'm at Castle College on Monday nights doing (or trying to do) AS psychology.

I'm at Castle, Tuesday nights doing counselling.
My 3rd year, only two more and I'll be qualified.

I wouldn't mind doing that. Is it interesting?

Hey Zebra,

I'm also studting Counselling at nightschool but at Birkbeck College/University of London. And it's now half term! Which approach are you focussing on?

It's a pretty good course yes, it's much more challenging that the two previous levels (obviously) and it really does alter the way you perceive communication and how you take part.
I think basic level counselling should be taught in schools it is enormously beneficial.

The current year isn't a full year on one approach, it's a combined and multi functioning work load of person centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural with a time focus on each area.
We have to do recorded sessions with 'clients', set up contracts, use continuation techniques and ultimately end counselling. Plus written assignments on the three approaches plus Rogers, Perls and Ellis. An agency and act of law presentation.

I quite fancy psychology next Sam, any good? I know the two subjects are close and they do cross, particularly with Freud and his stages of life model.

Yes, Zebra. It's nice because there are only three men in my class, the rest are women!

Seriously, though: the two subjects are very close and I would have thought that pschology would be very beneficial to you. I started psychology to try to find out more about myself, and it's certainly worked.

I'm a raving looney.

psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural issues are covered as in your counselling course. I'm doing AS level at the moment and wondering whether to do the full 'A' next year or move on to something else.
