View Full Version : Farewell to A boy named Sue
I might be alone here, being ancient compared to most people, and having weird musical taste, but what a shame that Johnny Cash died today.
I have always really liked him.
I saw him at Peterborough Country Music Festival 15 years ago...
Here is some stuff from the Beeb

Did he? First I've heard of it. Sad day indeed.
Nomme
Sad to hear that John Ritter died too. He had a couple of cameos in Scrubs, was the son of Tex Ritter but was better known for his sitcoms in the 80s.
DaBouncer 12-09-2003, 14:09 Johnny Cash. Famous Song 'Ring of Fire' which happened to be in a Hula Hoop advert for curry hula hoops.
Classic Song and a great singer!
Respect. 8)

Theres nowt weird or old about liking Johnny Cash Lou, the man was a proper legend. He'd recently done covers with the likes of Nick Cave and won an award last week for his video of a 'Nine Inch Nails' song! Most of todays 'so called' legends arnt fit to re- string his guitar.
R.I.P
MARTINO 1 12-09-2003, 20:40 Johnny cash the man in black a great guy and singer too
PaulTansley 13-09-2003, 07:42 Yeah Lou, cannot understand why your young uns get embarressed about liking older generation music.
Everone has different tastes in music, and just liking the latest stuff don't make you cool.
60s stuff is the best music ever made.
Today we have all the top gadgetry with lowsey music.
Johnny Cash made country music fashionable.
johnny cash was the original rebel punk as pontious said a legend, i for one will miss him
Cycleracer, I am not so young, but thanks for pretending I was and making me feel good.
Anyone see the Jools Holland interview with Johnny on Sunday night? It was great....I was playing "Live in Fulsom Prison" album all weekend
pontious 16-09-2003, 15:18 I've only discovered Johnny Cash in the last few months so was absolutely gutted when he passed away last week. This morning my copy of his last CD 'American IV:The Man Comes Around' arrived.
Stunning CD, with songs like Nine Inch Nail's 'Hurt' , a cover of Depeche modes 'Personal Jesus' and duets with Don Henley and Nick Cave. Hopefully the mans immense talent will now be fully recognised.......Its just so sad that this always happens to some artists after they die. :(
There goes a better man than I!
MARTINO 1 16-09-2003, 18:50 Louise B I also saw the jools holland show featuring the great man great viewing R I P THE MAN IN BLACK
Just listening to the Cadillac song and it remined me of this thread.
His lyrics were classic and soooooo humerous, especially the above and a boy named Sue.
"How high's the water mamma" is a favourite of my kids.
:( :(
GothicCharm 10-02-2006, 22:04 HE DIED?! :( :( :(

If you have the cadillac song, listen to that for a cheery one, it makes me howl every time
I love Johnny Cash. When I was a kid an uncle used to play a lot of Cash's songs in the clubs, and I used to love listening to him.
His cover of NiN's Hurt will always make me cry - I hear it in public and I'm blubbing like a baby.
Fantastic talent, a fighter and a survivor, and a true rebel. He did soem work with Joe Strummer (another of the same ilk) and I would have LOVED to have been at a live gig with those two on the bill!
Joe
GothicCharm 10-02-2006, 23:39 I've just been looking at the dates... was this thread made 3yrs ago?

GothicCharm 11-02-2006, 10:59 Whoa I must have been living under a rock for years!

TheBlueDragon 11-02-2006, 13:08 Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til we tried to put it all together one night
And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The transmission was a '53
And the motor turned out to be a '73
And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone.
what a song, hahaha

Lovely Wendie (http://www.lovelywendie99.com/)
what a song, hahaha
What model is it? (altogether now.........)
Well, I left Kentucky back in '49
An' went to Detroit workin' on a 'sembly line
The first year they had me puttin' wheels on cadillacs
Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black.
One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired
I'd have me a car worth at least a hundred grand.
CHORUS
I'd get it one piece at a time
And it wouldn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when I come through your town
I'm gonna ride around in style
I'm gonna drive everybody wild
'Cause I'll have the only one there is a round.
So the very next day when I punched in
With my big lunchbox and with help from my friends
I left that day with a lunch box full of gears
Now, I never considered myself a thief
GM wouldn't miss just one little piece
Especially if I strung it out over several years.
The first day I got me a fuel pump
And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk
Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome
The little things I could get in my big lunchbox
Like nuts, an' bolts, and all four shocks
But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home.
Now, up to now my plan went all right
'Til we tried to put it all together one night
And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong.
The transmission was a '53
And the motor turned out to be a '73
And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone.
So we drilled it out so that it would fit
And with a little bit of help with an A-daptor kit
We had that engine runnin' just like a song
Now the headlight' was another sight
We had two on the left and one on the right
But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on.
The back end looked kinda funny too
But we put it together and when we got thru
Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin
About that time my wife walked out
And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts
But she opened the door and said "Honey, take me for a spin."
So we drove up town just to get the tags
And I headed her right on down main drag
I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around
But up there at the court house they didn't laugh
'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff
And when they got through the title weighed sixty pounds.
CHORUS
I got it one piece at a time
And it didn't cost me a dime
You'll know it's me when I come through your town
I'm gonna ride around in style
I'm gonna drive everybody wild
'Cause I'll have the only one there is around.
(Spoken) Ugh! Yow, RED RYDER
This is the COTTON MOUTH
In the PSYCHO-BILLY CADILLAC Come on
Huh, This is the COTTON MOUTH
And negatory on the cost of this mow-chine there RED RYDER
You might say I went right up to the factory
And picked it up, it's cheaper that way
Ugh!, what model is it?
Whoa I must have been living under a rock for years!
I thought he was still alive...
Me too  and I was fortunate enough to see him in concert years and years ago. :D
Think the last record and video he made were very moving.Cant have been easy considering his health being so bad, the video was recently voted in the top ten of all thime.
