What a beautiful bloom, it looks like some sort of lilly? It's a late bloomer obviously.
I thought most weigela bloomed in spring and they're more shrubby.

Yes, I agree with Ruby what a magnificent flower. Does look like some sort of lily though.

Thank you for your quick replies, i took this earlier this year in April 07, but completing a calendar for the botanical gardens, well, they have not asked me to do it, i just love the gardens and thought i would do something in its honour.

Was this in the glass houses or in the gardens?

If it was outside it may be one of the rhododendron/azalea family. It does resemble a lily too. Im trying to work out which leaves and stems belong to it as that would help with identification.

I've just been looking through a few books, Yellowrose, and I was just coming back to post that it might be one of the white rhododendrens, too.

It's certainly lovely. I thought one of the bonuses of a botanical garden was that the plants were all labelled and catalogued, As such they may be able to tell you what it is themselves?

edit: taking another look at it, it looks like a rhodie, but the leaves don't look quite right ... are the leaves we can see at the bottom right, the actual leaves, as they look more like lily leaves.

I did not look at the labels as I should have - too busy taking photos, but it will learn me to take a note book and write it down, many thanks for all your help

Happy Christmas and Best wishes for the New Year

I think Ruby could be right with her Rhodie suggestion.

If it was in the glass house, it wouldnt be a rhododenron I wouldnt think as they are hardy. However, certain azaleas arent and they are the same family.

Now I know its inside, could it be hibiscus?
