Plain Talker 23-12-2007, 00:45 My friend and her mother are Egyptiennes from Alexandria. I also believe that friend's sister also lives here. Halibut 23-12-2007, 00:55 I know of a teacher at my daughter's school who is married to an Egyptian chap. Alastair 23-12-2007, 00:56 My husband is Egyptian and has lived here in sheffield for 8 years. during this time he has not met any other Egyptians so are there any more out there? I'm guessing there's not that many Egyptians and not enough to make a "community". However there'll be more then a few in a city of this size, just how to make contact with them? ballie 23-12-2007, 08:43 I'll ask my Mummy. Elmambo 23-12-2007, 11:48 I'll ask my Mummy. Like it :hihi::hihi::hihi: PaulTansley 23-12-2007, 17:28 I have Egyptian friends in Cairo and Alexandria and they want to come over here for a holiday. I would like them to come for a week but they seem to have problems leaving Egypt for some reason. We plan to go back there but we would prefer them to come here. Texas 23-12-2007, 17:45 Like it :hihi::hihi::hihi: Yeah, that's really funny. mrsmills 23-12-2007, 17:46 There are certainly various Arab and middle eastern communities in Sheffield notably Yemenis. Not evidence of an Egyptian population but hopefully it might be encouraging. ukdobby 23-12-2007, 19:24 They used to all go in Cairo Jacks a few years back but will have moved on since it closed down. Happy Days! bryhod 26-12-2008, 01:40 i do know a few egyptian muslims living around manchester that are talking of moving this way through work hillsbro 26-12-2008, 17:43 I believe his wife Margaret was a Sheffielder and they met at Sheffield University. Maybe someone could fill the bank spots in my memory? It was evidently President Sadat's mother-in-law who was from Sheffield. Anwar Sadat married Jehan Safwat Raouf whose parents were Safwat Raouf and and Gladys Raouf, née Cotterill. See http://www.egy.com/historica/egyptianconsorts.shtml which includes the statement: "On 2 September 1924, at Ecclesall Bierlow in the county of Derby (UK), Safwat Raouf, a 25 year-old medical student at Sheffield University, married music teacher Gladys Cotterill, the daughter of Charles Henry Cotterill, a Sheffield City police superintendent". Their daughter Jehan was born in 1933, and she married Anwar Sadat in 1949. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehan_Al_Sadat nefertari 27-12-2008, 16:43 Yes, my Husband is Egyptian.
