Just thought I would say well done to the crane company on Grange Mill Lane for the Christmas lights on their 2 cranes.
Year after year they have provided a welcoming Christmassy landmark for arrivals to Sheffield on the M1.

I second this, I remember these being lit up from what seems like years ago when I was catching the bus with my mom.
D'ya think the donator of the latest Google doodle comes from Sheffield? :P

Absolutely - it's little things like this that really brighten these grey days up.

Just thought I would bring this to the forum again. They have done it again, bringing some Christmas lights to the Grange Lane and M1 traffic. They even take care to point the cranes at right angles to the road so that you get the best view.
Well done to them. Is there anyone on this forum from the crane company?
there always nice to see - thanks lads:thumbsup:
The crane at Velocity tower was decorated last year but I noticed that it has now gone. Does this mean they will not be adding any more floors?

I think it may just have been a coincidence that the cranes were at right angle to the road, as when not in use cranes are left in neutral slew so if the wind changes they turn into the wind like a windmill does so they don't blow over. (ex crane driver )

I never knew that.
So you can always tell the wind direction by looking at a crane, bit like a weather vane.
These must be the largest weather vanes lit up at night in the area.
Well I suppose the cranes making a landmark from the motorway makes a bit of a change from cooling towers but not in the same league!

I like these cranes too! Always makes me smile and see them every evening on the way up the M1.
One of the few things I miss after moving from north Sheffield is that I don't pass the cranes any more.
