All the times I have been there this year it has not been anything like as utterly mental as it was last year. Still not great, but not obscene either.

Someone told me that Christmas Eve is one of the best times to go since everyone presumes it'll be manic.

I went last night, I only need a roll of wrapping paper and a carton of milk. It was horrible, M&S looked like a plague of locusts had been through, it was stripped bare. WH Smiths had one of the longest queues I've ever seen. It was madness. Then to top it all the tram took ages to turn up, when it did it was packed, a fight broke out half way into town and some p**sed-up bloke threw-up everywhere.

Merry ? no, not realy.

i'm going for the experience on Christmas Eve - it just makes you all festive wandering amongst all the last minute shoppers without a care in the world.
it'll be some retail park on sunday i think - i need some capuccino cups.

Don't beleive them. It's horrific on Christmas Eve. I do all my shopping beginning of November. It's fine then.

If you can shop efficiently (ie. don't need hours to buy a few things) then going for the last hout and half 7:30 onwards is a great time to go.

After 8 o'clock nowhere was even remotely busy.

You should come in on a sunday and see the queues at wh smith!

I worked thursday 5-10 at smiths and didn't think it was as busy as it has been recently

I went on Wednesday evening at about 4:30pm and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. There was room to move around in and the tram back at about 6:30 wasn't that busy.

The only place I can think of that might be more terrible is Argos on the Moor.

Most people will have benn finishing for Christmas today and rushing round getting things at lunchtime, plus the kids will have been finishing too - it was very busy yesterday til about 2.30 and then it was quite pleasant. The queue in Smiths was still horrific though! Worth it for the bargains they're starting to get on sale...

Am I insane to be going tomorrow? Plan on getting there for 9am, should be done by about half 10.... I know it will be busy but hopefully will have left by the time it gets insane!

That's what I always do if I have to go there around Christmas time and it works well - in fact I do it all the time now because it's so nice when it's quiet in there! Just watch out for parking space sharks when you get out - people won't give you time to get your bags in before they start hassling for your space!

we were in Meadowhall today around 4:30-5:30 and it was ok. Busier than normal but still possible to buy things and walk around.

You should all de glad it's busy.

Meadowhall provides a lot of local people with employment & a lot of the people who shop there are from outside the area.

Would you rather it was still a derilict steelworks & folks were travelling elsewhere to spend their money:loopy:
