Can anyone tell me what year Sheffield first became National City of Sport?

If you look at the BBC site they seem to think it's Birmingham!

Here :( (http://www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham/sport/athletics/city-of-sport.shtml)
But looking at what it has there is no wonder. County Cricket Ground? and it does host more athletic events than Sheffield. The last time Don Valley hosted something was a couple of years ago on BBC Norwich Union something or other. :o Why when Bramall Lane was redeveloped and the Laver Stand was added, did they relocate it up to Leeds? I have a Road Map which states Yorkshire County Cricket is arrowed down Bramall Lane :? (Btw it was made in 2001) then I look at Leeds and it only says Headingly? Who's Right with that?!
