I went for an interview there a few months back, and they'd just phased out all phone lines - apparently phone calls make a company look inefficient. they work solely with email now on customer service front - and are supposed to answer within 24 hours or something. keep trying!

ps - i don't work there, they seem a terrible place to work!

You have to use their internal (or infernal) messaging system. The system itself sucks, but I have to say that if, for example, you want to return something, they tend to come back pretty quickly & not argue.

Don't even look for a phone number, I'll save you the trouble... 0114 201 6965, but you get a recorded message asking you to go through their website.

You cant phone them, and you cant email them without an account. So if, like me, youve forgotten your password, and dont have access to the email address you signed up with, and it wont let you create a new account because your postal address is already being used, theres no way of resetting your account so you cant order from them ever again. Now thats what I call customer service.

I had a similar problem - my missus wanted to buy something but the whole "your postcode is already in use" thing put a stop to that. They sorted it out after a bit of a ranty enote, but by then she'd ordered elsewhere.

Fortunately living in Sheffield you have the opportunity to go down in person and yell very loudly through the windows.

Probably better to use enotes.

Thats just the problem though...yo can only use enotes if you have an account that you can log in to. I cant log into my account, and cant use their password retrieval system, so with no other forms of communicating with them, theres bugger all I can do.

My advice is to go and talk to the Citizen's Advice Bureaux, I'm sure it must be illegal for a company to make themselves uncontactable to their customers.

Simple Answer Just dont buy from them! If a company or a service provider will not pay to have sufficient staff to answer customers calls they dont deserve custom. If everyone took this stance then they would quickly go down the tubes. I for one refuse to have any dealing with this company.

I'll tell you a story.
I work for a local company and we buy quite a lot of stuff from companies like ebuyer.
A few months ago we needed a keyboard for a job we were doing but it had to be an exact match to the Companies own keyboards. There were 2 places we could find that had them in stock. Ebuyer and Saverstore.com in Luton. Even though we wanted to order the stuff on Monday PM there was no way, no matter how much postage we would pay to get the shipment to us by Thursday using Ebuyer. Ebuyer's warehouse is just 10 min down the road form us and it was quicker to drive down to Luton to pick up the item. Granted they replied within hours of me sending them an e-note but the couldn’t do anything.
Now that’s customer service.

Another good one is that they use initial ****ylink to deliver their parcels. They have never managed to deliver a parcel to my house. When I am expecting a parcel and it doesn’t arrive by 3pm I call their call centre to chase it up and guess what? The Driver left an outcard, but only he didn't! He couldn't be bothered to drive to my house. No I have to order the item, pay for delivery, wait 3 days and then drive all the way to Rotherham passing by the ebuyer warehouse and collect it myself.
Even when they deliver to work they sometimes come out with the outcard joke. Last time we sent them the CCTV tape, and a signed statement from the painter who was painting the front door all day to prove we were not mad.
That’s my moan done with.
I now don't buy from ebuyer unless my life depends on it. And order from someone else if a company uses ****ylink.

That feels better :)

I've tried ordering a few things from E-buyer. Each time they've refused my card becuase of a "security problem". The most annoying thing is that it takes them a couple of days to refuse it. Its not instant, like when you place the order.

There has always been enough money on the card. Infact each time I just shrugged my shoulders and ordered from one of amazon, scan or insight. If they dont want my money there are plenty of others that do :)

I'm glad I dont use them. The reason they dont let you phone them is clearly a cost cutting exercise as opposed to the reason they give. e-mail is fine in some cases but sometimes you just want to talk to somebody.

Quite a clear flaw in the plan is that some people ordering from ebuyer are probably going to be unable to get on the net as a direct consequence of ordering stuff from ebuyer (I'm not suggesting ebuyer sells more knackered stuff than anywhere else. This is just the way it is with computer hardware). In cases like this what would of been a simple technical support phone call turns into an ordeal for both parties which likely ends up with the item(s) being sent back.

Much the same experiences, and much the same outcome, I no longer use ebuyer.

We've bought from there ok to be honest, but I know someone who worked there for a while. Usual stories which would put you off, but its the same at any big warehouse/mail order firm.

We've also got annoyed that we can't just pick stuff up.

yup, takes a week (sometimes longer) to deliver when they are only a 10 min drive away :loopy: even if we offter to save them a job by picking it up for them they refuse, sure is a strange company...

If they had a trade type counter, they would make an absolute killing in Sheffield, Maplin Electronics have a trade counter at their main dispatch centre in Wombwell!

What about making a second account with a fake address (because you won't ship anything there) and then once you have that log-in and use enotes to let them know about the problems with your other account?

I know....that's a really backwards way of doing things but it might work!

Insight let you pick stuff up from their Sheffield warehouse. I think they have more than one though so it depends if the items you are ordering are in stock in Sheffield. If you ring through and order the items and explain you want to pick them up instead of getting them delivered they just ask you to take some photographic ID down. I'm not sure if its a common practice but I've done it before.

I've bought quite a lot of stuff from ebuyer. Their postage charges tend to be a bit steep, but I've been very happy with their service.

I've had to send back a couple of faulty items, and both were replaced fairly quickly.

It is annoying that they won't let you pick up or deliver items to them personally though.
