I used to live on Beall St next to Huntsmans Gardens School. I don't remember you guys - but I used hang out with a buddy who lived on Baltic Rd called Arthur Higgins. If you look in the book about Attercliffe by Michael Liversedge (spelling??) there's a picture looking up Baltic Rd. I was born (1953) on Don Road (well, in't Northern General actually, but you know what I mean:hihi:...), but we moved to Ribston Road when I was about 2. I went to Hammerton County. That's borderline 'Cliffe, init? Went to St. Andrews sunday school near t't Fox House pub.

I lived there (...Ribston...) 'til I was 23. It was a pain living in t'middle of Staniforth Road after I was 15 (:o... I mean '18'!;)) 'cos owd man Staniforth, who it was named for, was teetotal and wouldn't have a pub on his road. (Even when they built the Staniforth Arms, it had to be set well back from the road.) So I had to leg it up to Darnall or down t't 'Cliffe.

I still go in t'Carlton occasionally. I like my real ale:thumbsup: and not swearing!:o:suspect: :hihi:

I lived on Baltic Road at No.48. Remeber the twins and Ann, and their mum and dad. My name was Margaret Bell and my sister was Ann Bell. Our grandma and grandad lived over the road at no.49, they were Annie and George Denial. My mum and dad were Audrey and Arthur Bell and we lived next door to Mrs. Higgins, Arthur's mum. Went to school at Hunstmans Gardens with Maureen Frith who lived in the yard next to Banners Shop. Best fish and chip shop ever just round the corner from the top of our street. When we were little Mrs. Aynley always gave you a chip wrapped in paper while you waited. My sister's friend was Susan Habajam who she still sees now and again when out shopping etc. People looked down on you if you came from Attercliffe but they were the best bunch of people and looked after one another if they could. We also had friends called Fearnley - Janice, Susan and Lesley. Happy Days!

Don't know if you saw my thread a few days ago but I lived next door to Arthur's grandma on Baltic Road. (No.48). Haven't seen anything of him since the houses were demolished. He used to knock about with Alan Richardson who lives very near to me now. Arthur's gran sadly was killed by a lorry which reversed into her - very sad.

I Lived at 1 Newton Terrace Carbrook between surburton st, and st barts church
you went down a large entry.small garage at the side
I Think there was about 5 houses on the front.
The Gurnalls big family, lived there at the side of the entry.
Go down the entry and it was there back yards,
and behind them was another 5 houses, thats where I Lived,
over the wall from the church, with a great view in Lants chip shop.
(my grandad was care taker of st Barts in the late 60's A.Downs)
my nan lived in the next yard down from Jacksons chip shop.
She was Called Giles,
in the yard also lived M,Ali and family, 2 brothers, forget there names,
Pashley's,and Schofield's,
this was just a little higher up on the other side from the Pheasant Pub.
I Think we left about 1969 when they pulled the houses down.
I Miss my time down there.;o(
I lived there from 6 weeks old to 15yrs
so I Can say I Was dragged up down Attercliffe.lol

My wife, Carol Longley, lived in Swallow Place up to the late 60's with mum and dad Eric & Annie Longley. Eric was a committee man at Attercliffe Libs and Annie worked at the Library with her sister Jessie. She had relatives on Beverly Street and Liverpool Street - Sid & Jess Williamson with children Joan, Pat & Brian (and possibly Kate).

Carol used to be an avid Roller-skater with her friend Carol Darby.

Hello there. I lived on Whitworth Lane and Jennifer Smart and Veronica White lived on Howden Road (the next street to mine). I knew them both as Jennifer's sister Mavis married my cousin Derek. I too went to Coleridge Road up to 1966 when it closed so I might know you. There was another girl on our road, Jennifer Allen, who was a year older than me who went to Coleridge too. I'm in contact with several former schoolmates from Coleridge (via Facebook) - and a few of them originated from Phillimore Road school and lived at Darnall. I talk regularly to a classmate who now lives in Canada and she is coming back for a visit next year so we are arranging to meet up. Any other info - contact me on 9whitworth@googlemail.com. Jacqui

Born and Bred in Attercliffe - lived on Worksop Road in the yard where the fish and chip shop was on the corner, opposite Cutler's Arms. Went to Huntsmans Gardens - as my mother did before me - she lived there until the council condemed the houses and she was always bitter about that and was livid when they rebuilt there. She died less then two years ago. My two brothers also went to that school and both later to Hatfield House Lane - yes there was a 'them and us' situation between Hatfield House Lane and Hartley Brook and of course the two sides met on the bus journey to and from school!

Used to go to the Weslyn Methodist chapel until I was about 13 then they closed down - interesting old building and I know there used to be a dance school that either was using some of premises or was attached via backyard area.

Gosh it all come flooding back - best shut up before I bore everyone silly :-))

Sorry added my name to another thread about Attercliffe or Huntsman Gardens, forgot which - there is so much to answer and look at on this site - just so time consuming!

my maiden name was Sidaway and the other names I remember were Parker, Major, Rodgers, Johnson, O'Neil and I know my husband's uncle Alf Walker lived on Titterton Street at the end after the telephone exchange. My brothers are Kenneth and Michael, Ken is still in Sheffield and coming for a visit in a few days.

I am finding it hard to remember names of people who went to HG - Brain Cooper I remember but I know he died recently and for some reason I remember Colin Flemming but no idea where he lived - otherwise it is a blank! So if you can jog the old brain that would be good.

I posted earlier mentioning the Wesleyan Church in Attercliffe but after looking a little further then my nose! I discovered what I was really talking about was the Attercliffe Methodist Mission - took this from my brother's baptism certificate - he was the only one in the family baptised there.

So anyone go there, remember it, have photos etc. it fronted onto Attercliffe Road and the back was via Chapel Lane which came off Worksop Road - the frontage was quite grand - surely there is someone out there who remembers it?

Wow Pegaso - who remembers nibbets! Do they still make them.

I lived in the yard straight across from the Britnall Street entrace of the Cutlers and the walls there were a favourite play area. the yard had the fish and chip shop as the first builing in it - then a Pakistani family - then Mrs. Gordon's then US! then another house and finally the Parkers.

I can not remember any Wilson-learys but which kids really paid attention to surnames then.

Are you still in Sheffield? Was over there 18 months ago and drove back from Hull and came off the motorway at Meadowhall as I was low on fuel - only to find I had to drive to Prince of Wales Road on empty - but hey made it. So driving along Attercliffe and Darnell was a real experience - still full of people and I am sure the distances had condensed! :-))
