View Full Version : Refused entry to Meadowhall for no reason!
frostiekazza 18-12-2007, 15:12 I am bloody furious !!!! .My 17 year old nephew went to Meadowhall on Saturday to do his Christmas shopping and the security man refused him entry !! . He was dressed smartly in jeans and a Mekenzie jumper ( Not a hooded one !!) he had no hat on , hes never been in trouble so why did they refuse him entry !! .
He was really looking forward to doing his christmas shopping on his own this year because he's got a really good job and his own money , last Christmas he was still at school so went with his mum and she bought the gifts he wanted .
He asked the security bloke why he wasnt allowed in and he said because i dont want to let you in , in a really arrogent way !!!!!.As my nephew was talking to this bloke loads more people walked in including people wearing hoodies and baseball hats and shouting and being really loud but they wernt stopped !
He walked all the way round to the other side of Meadowhall , through another entrance and just walked straight in .
What really annoys me is all the gangs of kids we see in there all the time messing around in shops ,(like i said there were loads in when my nephew was there and it peed him off as well) why are they let in but not my nephew ?
Has anyone else had this problem and did the security give a reason for not letting you in ??
beansforyou 18-12-2007, 15:14 Have you contacted Meadowhall customer services and asked them why it happened?
alex3659 18-12-2007, 15:14 report him
oh thats low.. not being let into meadowhall is quite disrespectful to the individual considering who they do let in.
you sure he didn't give him some lip?
fabulous_girl 18-12-2007, 15:34 I didnt know they had security guards at meadowhall?! i've never seen one, either manning a shop or manning the centre! Why would they man one entrance and not another/ I bet this guy was having a laugh.
Good grief .. I've never heard of this before.
alex3659 18-12-2007, 15:38 wish they wouldnt let my wife in.:mad::mad::mad:
I would definately report this by letter or email (not verbal) to customer services.
I won't go there because of all the feral kids running around.
I wish they would refuse me entry to Meadowhell
ReginaldD 18-12-2007, 15:49 He probably saw the McKenzie jumper and stopped him going in because he looked like someone he'd previously thrown out or something.
Andy_sheff 18-12-2007, 15:59 the majority of security men have the same problem... a huge chip on there shoulder. Power mad.
He will have beeb flexing his 'authority'.
frostiekazza 18-12-2007, 16:00 At first my nephew did think he was joking and sort of half smiled and carried on walking but the guard stopped him and thats when he asked why he wasnt allowed in .Its the way the guard said because i dont want to let you in , it was more like the guard was giving the lip and not my nephew as one of you has asked !!
He needed to do the shopping on saturday because he was going out on Sunday and he works all week till late and didnt want to go in his work clothes ( a GOOD reason not to let him in , hes a builder and can get quite messy !!) so he purposley didnt start an argument with the bloke in case he was never allowed back in ,( can you imagine a lifelong ban from Meadowhall :o ).
If it had been anywhere else he wouldnt have gone in the place ever again but its the convienience of always knowing that you'll be able to get all the gifts you need , and he did , so for the rest of the year he's not going back there , they'll prob notice a drop in sales because he always buys tons of stuff wherever he goes !!
I didnt know they had security guards at meadowhall?! i've never seen one, either manning a shop or manning the centre! Why would they man one entrance and not another/ I bet this guy was having a laugh.
Oh they do, they appear from everywhere when they come.
frostiekazza 18-12-2007, 16:07 He probably saw the McKenzie jumper and stopped him going in because he looked like someoen he'd previously thrown out or something.
Oh come on , if he was to throw people out wearing McKenzie stuff he'd be a v busy man , i see loads of people wearing them in there , he even bought it From Meadowhall !!!!
Is it possible that a description was circulated of someone that shouldn`t be allowed in(for whatever reason), and your nephew fitted that description.
If thats the case then he dosn`t really have to give him a reason for not being allowed in, but probably should`ve explained this to him.
Greybeard 18-12-2007, 16:41 Security guards ......from what I've been reading lately a lot of them are illegal immigrants. One was even working on reception at the Home Office :hihi:
Security guards are the polices rejects

Exactly , if the security guard had explained to him instead of just being clever with him , my nephew maybe could have gone to customer services and cleared any misunderstanding up.If a description had been circulated tho wouldnt the other security guard on the other door have stopped him as well ? , he said " good afternoon " to my nephew in a really cheery manner and smiled at him !
Did your Nephew try another Entrance that's Exactly what i would have done.:hihi:
muddywolf 18-12-2007, 20:59 Did your Nephew try another Entrance that's Exactly what i would have done.:hihi:
Yes if you read his/her post you would read that.
Tell him not to take it to heart frostiekazza the security guard was prob having an off day or something, and he was the unlucky victim.
sounds crazy to me, they let all the moaning gits from the forum in, you know the one's that believe mothers shouldn't shop there, or the disabled one's that believe the meadowhall tram is just for them, then there's the one's that think everyone under 21 is a foul mouthed thug...yet someone who wants to shop gets refused?
I hate the place with a passion so therefore don't shop there, in turn can't get refused, sounds like a dream to me. Reminds me of the pompous little kid a few weeks back @ the interchange that told, not asked told me to stop riding my bike, ok i got off, fair enough, they have rules...but he had to push his luck and told me "if i catch you on it again, i'll take it off you, simple as" :hihi: the kid was about 16 and would struggle to hold a pint up for 2secs lol. I merely offered him to try and held my bike out to him, @ which point he walked off mumbling something under his breath

lol they have loads they even have there own police depo inside there.. (only know that cause i was watching traffic cops the other week ) :hihi:

Was that the one with the guy who was looking up women's skirts near argos? If so I saw that one too.
Raychul69 18-12-2007, 21:53 Was that the one with the guy who was looking up women's skirts near argos? If so I saw that one too.
Yeah the dirty so and so was putting his camera up peoples skirts wasn't he :suspect:
wheateruk 18-12-2007, 23:23 i thought it was my understanding they couldnt refuse you entry as technically its classed as a public road inside.
briggy1967 19-12-2007, 03:06 He should have INSISTED on seeing the Security manager, the bloke was taking the ****,prob had a crap day and wanted to take it out on someone and picked on a young un.
On a similiar (ish) subject,i was at Meadowhell last week and went outside Argos entrance for a fag and was told (not asked) told to move away from side enterance of the doors and smoke near the bins "if i had to smoke"
Told him where to stick it
There are no signs outside saying you have to smoke near the bins and cant smoke outside the doors
People smoke and always will do,they are MORE than happy to take our money but god forbid if we smoke OUTSIDE
himagain 19-12-2007, 06:36 Hasn't anyone ever noticed that a nice dry and warm place like Meadowhall isn't stuffed full of teenagers hanging out with there friends.
The reason being that Meadowhall doesn't want and doesn't allow gangs of youths to gather there. Its been their policy for years.
They want happy smiling cash spending shoppers

He wasn't in a "gang" - he was alone
He just wanted to do his Christmas shopping. It's a normal thing to do around this time of year :help:

Very True, but they always gather in the Chav's natural habitat ie the bus station outside.
I would be tempted to write a formal letter of complaint to Meadowhall telling them how distressed it made your son feel to be barred from entry -from what you say, there was no justification for him being refused entry and you never know, you might even get a shopping voucher out of them as compensation for distress caused.
i thought it was my understanding they couldnt refuse you entry as technically its classed as a public road inside.
Nope; the whole place is a privately owned complex. They can refuse entry for any reason, or even for no reason at all; just as I can refuse entry to someone wanting to come into my house. I don't have to have a reason. If I don't want you to come in, you're not coming in.
As to the OP's relative; it may be that he has the misfortune to resemble some other lad who has caused trouble there in the past. It may be that he was doing something that, while innocent, looked suspicious; or it may just be, as suggested above, that the security guard was feeling ticked off about something and decided to take it out on him.
trainwalker 19-12-2007, 10:39 meadowhall is a privately run bussiness and therefore they can pick and choose who comes inside to play and who doesn't. it is a bit like the sheffield forum in some ways. (no troll intended).
He was dressed smartly in jeans and a Mekenzie jumper
Perhaps it was the fashion police ?
I get barred from there every day, mind you it is me that imposes the ban because I hate the place
I have had a similar experience but at Primarks, nowadays security guards are becoming like jumped up authoritans, they let the uniform go to their heads and have way too much power, I am not against security guards because it's nice to feel safe in a shop or wherever, but, if only they would be forced somehow to give legal reasons why they refuse people entry or enforce their authority without being so flippant and rude.
Most likely they mistook him for someone who is banned from Meadowhall. My cousin got a 6 month ban for nicking from a GT News in there- maybe they thought it was him :hihi:

but, if only they would be forced somehow to give legal reasons why they refuse people entry or enforce their authority
"We are not letting you in" is a legal reason. What else do you expect them to say?

bobgirlsnake 19-12-2007, 20:32 a security guard once told me to make my son take his hud down when in meadowhall shopping, i just laffed and walked off because my son is only two, only to be asked again a second time in a raised voice, so i told him no hes a two yr old child hes not doing anything wrong.
Panda Pasoos 19-12-2007, 20:36 Was that the one with the guy who was looking up women's skirts near argos? If so I saw that one too.
He went to school with my brother
I'd be so proud if they didn't let me in. It's like being crowned a king among men.

Wearing a hood up is doing something wrong. They don't allow it.
cgksheff 19-12-2007, 20:52 Wearing a hood up is doing something wrong. They don't allow it.
Only if it may be perceived as intimidating.
Which would hardly be the case with a 2 year-old.
Only if it may be perceived as intimidating.
You sure about that? It seems to me that they don't allow it period; otherwise they wouldn't be asking toddlers to remove them.

i cant see a two yr old having his hood up in meadowhall wrong and not been allowed..... whats he going to do shoplift?? steal from someone.....?? i dont think so......

That is outrageous. A good security guard is always entitled to use some discretion in their job. Either this guy was too stupid to realise that a two-year-old isn't likely to cause any trouble or he just enjoys throwing his weight around.
beddoe79 19-12-2007, 22:22 He went to school with my brother
Is that a good claim to fame? :hihi:
Nigel Womersle 20-12-2007, 01:22 I had a similair experience at Tesco in Barnsley many years ago. The manager there had invited me to look around the storerooms and offices. Although the manager was with me, the security guard stopped me and refused me entrance. It took him about three minutes to realise he had picked on the wrong person, as the manager just gawped at me giving him what for. I never raised my voice to him once, but he knew he had picked the wrong one. The manager walked away, totally embarrassed as I stood my ground. I saw the offices etc. It turned out that the guard was an ex RSM. He must have thought me an easy target. No bloody way!
missflirtuk 20-12-2007, 01:39 at least security guards are there within a few minutes unlike police who turn up when they want and then its always the innocent ones who get persecuted and the guilty ones get away with it belive me i know. me and my bf was arguning and i smacked him across the face and when the police came because he assualted me she said you do know you cant go around hitting people dont you? so i said so he can threaten to set me on fire and threaten to chuck me downstairs? police are useless security guards are great!!!
cgksheff 20-12-2007, 08:27 You sure about that? It seems to me that they don't allow it period; otherwise they wouldn't be asking toddlers to remove them.
Totally sure about it. I wouldn't have said it, otherwise.
The fact that security guards may not understand the regulations that they are supposed to enforce merely reinforces the generic perception of 'your average security guard'.

hahaha - I think you've got it bang on there Stockers lad!!!
It's funny how these security guards always pick on the innocent ones......
frostiekazza 21-12-2007, 12:40 Why does everyone think ALL teenages are hoody wearing , gun toting , cider drinking hooligans these days , dont get me wrong i know there are some bad uns out there but teenages always get tarred with the same brush and its small minded people like yourselves ( you know who you are )who think teenages all are like it
The security guard prob picked on him because nephew was on his own and an easy target , probably thought being on his own he could intimidate him and make him look small just so he could feel good about himself cos thats the only he knows how to !!

Tarring with brushes... is that like kettles calling the pot black?
Oh I forgot to ask, have you contacted customer services yet to find out why he was barred entry? I'd read the entire thread but it's mundane squabbling gives me headache.
ariesone 24-12-2007, 16:19 I have always found Meadowhall to be very well policed by the security teams there and if your nephew was not allowed in I suggest you raise a complaint. In this way it can be looked into rather than giving one side of the story second hand from your nephew and let us know what the facts of the event were. There are two sides to every story!!
Apparently people were being turned away from Meadowhall in the rush up for Christmas only for the fact of it being overcrowded....
It would have been done for safety reasons, not discrimination because someone has the wrong top on.
If there was a major incident in Meadowhall those security guards would be responsible in ensuring the shoppers safety and getting everyone out. :D
Grandad.Malky 24-12-2007, 18:26 Security guards are all over Meadowhall.
I have never seen as many as today, they must be paying a good overtime rate,
:D

Maybe if it was so busy and they were controlling access they were only letting people in who looked loaded or would spend lots of money?
Or am I just being TOO cynical?
i dnt like meadowhell its terrible this time of year so dont go but if i was you i would report him dnt let him get away with it
