In the middle of the Applet which should start the Live Chat room of this very site I get.

Invalid Bytecode

Always worked before.... anyone know why this might be happening?

Hiya,

What version of the runtimes are you running?

I had to back out the most recent edition of the Sun runtimes recently because it was screwing up all sorts of Java stuff running here.

No idea mate.
Not upgraded anything recently, it just seems to have stopped working.

I use opera browser and it has always | always been fine until tonight.

Another possibility is that the version of the bytecode that's cached on your PC is corrupted.

In IE you cann delete the downloaded class files and that will force the re-loading from the site.

Try clearing your Internet temporary files, if such an option exists. I'm afraid I'm not much good with Opera... :(

The chat room works best in IE DaB.

Up to last week I was using Firefox and having major problems getting into teh chat, I've since gone back to IE and now can chat with no problems.

Doesn't work at all if you have Java turned off.

I never use the chatroom here, due to the fact that I can't be bothered turning Java on then off (if I remember).

Hi, sorry to drag up an old thread but this is the one that search turned up.

I can't get onto the chat room. For the first time I have to put in ym username and password to log in and then it says in the dialog box at the bottom says 'error connecting to server' which I assume is the fact I've recently gone to university and have braodband via private halls.

Is this their firewall blocking it? If so, is there any way for me to circumvent it?

Hi Wilf,

That sounds VERY like a Firewall problem - short of getting teh University to open a port in the firewall I don't see any way around it.

If you ask them whether, in principle, they'd be willing to do that I'll try and find out what port teh chat room uses.

Under normal circumstances, I would accuse you of creeping up to the Mods.

However, there are a lot of recent posts where Joe has spelled 'the' correctly.
