My poor Charlie cat started being ill Sunday night, with watery vomit. Yesterday there was more vomit when we got home and he has stayed on the sofa all yesterday, and still there this a.m

Is there anything I can personally do or should I take him to the vets? I'm popping home at lunch to check on him.

He's not eaten anything, I took away sachet food, and milk, and have put out biscuits and water, but the other cat has had the biscuits. I'm worried that he might not be drinking enough.

Any ideas what could be wrong with him and how I can make him playful again? He's only 2 years old

Thanks

If he's an outdoor cat it could well be poison.

If his vomit is watery, it's probably bile, cos he's sicked up everything else already.

If he's being sick and not drinking the dehydration will kill him very quickly.

I'd get him to the vets ASAP,.

Thanks for the response, I hope it's not poison, is there any specific symptoms that would mean it's definitely poison?

Really worried now

Not that I know, it always help if you've got the original sick to look at.

Normally slug pellets make it Blue green, rat posion (which can come from eating a rat) is impossible to spot.

Check the eyes, if the cat is not alert, and his eyes are not focussing you need the vet immediately. To check for dehydration, lift the fur (back of kneck) and let it go, if it is very slow to go back then the cat is dehydrated.

I really would go to the VET ASAP, tell them it's urgent.

The only sick I've seen is the watery stuff, which was a bit yellowy. My other cat was sick Sunday night but that was from eating a slug (the whole slug was in her vomit), so I figured Charlie might have done the same, but she's been normal and he hasn't.

He caught a mouse Sunday morning, but didn't eat it, hopefully he's not caught anything from that?

I tried doing the neck test this a.m but as he's fluffy and slim I couldn't grab the skin properly.

My poor baby fluff

If he's not drinking then I'd syringe feed him some water or rehydration salts (you can get animal rehydration salts from the vet) at least a couple of times a day until he's sorted out, if only to prevent him becoming dehydrated if he isn't already.

If he's been like this for more than a day he really needs to see a vet though. Cats don't show that they're ill until they're really quite ill, by which point it can be really hard to get them back from there.

Thanks Medusa, I tried dropping bits of water in his mouth this morn, will tray again at lunch when i run home, but if he's still not right I need to book an apptment at the vet don't I?

If he's normal should I presume he's better or is it still worth a check up?

If only he could speak!

I wouldn't presume that he's back to normal until he eats a normal meal, keeps it down, goes to the loo normally and begins playing and snuggling you normally.

For your peace of mind getting him checked over seems the sensible thing.

I hope he's up and about and happy soon.

Just to update, in case anyone is wondering how my baby is!

Got home yestdy lunchtime and he was still lethargic and pools of sikc so booked emergncy apptment for the pm. Got home at pm and same scenario again. Vet looked him over and said he had a lump in his stomach that meant he could have eaten a stone or something uncomfortable. SHe said he was a bit dehydrated, checked for diabetes, gave antinbiotics, and to bring him back today for x ray. She also advised to buy tuna in springwater, drain the tuna and leave the water for him to tempt him more.

Well this morning he was a changed cat! He had slept in bed with me! And I got up and he was crying for food. My OH took him to the vet and the lump had disappeared! weird as he hadn't vomited or been to the toilet during the night! He n ow has special bland food, and more antibiotics.

Can't wait to get home and give him proper cuddles!

Cats eh!

I'm so glad that he's made such a good recovery! Guess it was an infection then, if the antibiotics worked their magic.

Think so, the vet was a bit perturbed that the lump had gone and yet he hadn't toileted, but he's definitely on the mend

Thanks for everyone's advice!

Our old cat Jimmy had a similar lump disappearance, it was trapped wind. We were in the room when the lump escaped in gas form (the smell was horrific)
The vet was so concerned that it was a stone that he was going to operate to remove it.
Glad your's is feeling better now and I hope that's all it was.

Maybe it was trapped wind, could explain why lump had gone but no evidence of it anywhere!

£75 for trapped wind!

Ooh its a good job he's cute and fluffy!
