Hi I don't know if anyone has any ideas but i have just taken on an allotment that has a greenhouse, it has a very sturdy frame but approx 50 % of the glass is missing. I am keen to use the greenhouse , but would appreciate some advice on how to go about repairing it. Should I go for replacing glass or some other material such as polycarbonate sheets. ??
Many thanks in advance

I bought some replacement panes for mine from Focus a few years ago, but they were a standard size. I understand that B & Q stock this sort of stuff seasonally.
My greenhouse was an aluminium framed one and the panes were all the same size. Wire clips held the panes in place and they were really easy to replace.
Firstly, how to repair will depend on the type of greenhouse, its age etc. I much preferred glass, but if you are in a location where breakage is common then polycarbonate might be an option. Ask other allotmenteers in your area if they find glass OK or if polycarb is a better option.

we used corrugated plastic sheets put over the existing glass. It's very quick and has not blown off in the two years since we did it. The plastic goes brittle after a while but it takes 10 years or so I think . We had to do this because much of the remaining glass was loose and the there were lots of leaks.
If yours is in a better state then maybe consider glass. There's also been issues at our site with vandalism and the kids seem less interested in plastic rooves than glass ones. The cost was £100 for the whole roof - probably more expensive than glass but we did it a day and time was a major consideration.

Place at firvale also sells greenhouse glass, depending on the level of vandalism at that site you might be better getting plastic!
