View Full Version : Places called Sheffield all over the world
fingerfun 08-02-2005, 17:02 The idea for this topic came from that news article about those 2 chaps (who post on this forum) who are going to all the pubs in Sheffield. They mentioned they considered visiting every place called Sheffield in the world...
To help them, I thought we could recommend some places that we had been to called Sheffield:
To start proceedings - I visited a little town on the South Island in New Zealand called Sheffield... was a little different to the one in which we reside at the mo... :)
There is a Sheffield in Cornwall, I dont believe it has a pub though ;)
LordChaverly 08-02-2005, 17:55 There are several in the States, including in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont and also (I think) Alabama.

There's one in South Yorkshire between Meadowhall and the Peak District. Or at least there used to be when I were a kid!
franc1987 08-02-2005, 18:32 I've been through the "Sheffield" in Cornwall and to me it seemed like nothing more than a street with terraced houses! Lol. I seem to remember it being down south somewhere near Sennon?
I think there is a "Sheffield" in Michagan, USA as well.... but not sure if that is correct.

gneighbour 09-02-2005, 03:35 There's a Sheffield on Mars -- do I need to say this is fictional -- in Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy. Named after SF writer Charles Sheffield.
When pasing through the town of Sheffield, Massachusetts don't blink your eyes or you'll miss it altogether. It's in the Berkshires, which is geographically incorrect.
I think there's a Sheffield in Canada.... Ontario I think :?
over in the far east they have named an industrial town sheffield so that they can stamp on the cutlrey they make - 'made in sheffield'
cheeky chuffs!!!
bobsyouruncle 09-02-2005, 08:45 there is a sheffield island in connecticut, and this one in texas...
Sheffield is located west of Sonora and east of Fort Stockton on Hwy 349 just off I-10, in Pecos County. The site, near a ford in the Pecos River and Pecos Spring, was long a stopping point for nomadic Indians.
Although I-10 bypassed it in the early 1980s, the town continued to thrive. In 1985 Sheffield had several stores and restaurants, an elementary school, three churches, and a population of 300. In 2000 the community had fifteen businesses and a population of 600.

OK if you say so, wouldn't want to argue those details.
The North Coast above Durban South Africa has a lot of areas to do with Sheffield as the sugar farms there were founded by a Sheffielder. To name a few :-
Sheffield Beach
Intake
Tinsley
Manor
royjames 09-02-2005, 16:08 Thers a sheffield in soutern california went past it about 4 months ago.
Between L A and Carmel.
Sheffield Pike.
This is in the Lake District, looking over Glennridding and the shores of Ulswater.
Quite a good little climb too!

I wonder if the Manor there is the same as the Manor here :)
There's also a Sheffield in Kent.

I think you may be wrong there. It's the only reason this country can not stop them selling their steel as "Made in Sheffield".

theimposter 10-02-2005, 18:40 Have to say that the quest to visit every Sheffield in the world was a bit tongue in cheek. Cant imagine that we'll ever be able to afford it!
lastlaugh 25-07-2005, 13:23 Hi,
I'm trying to find any other places in the world called Sheffield. A web search has turned up a few in the states, but no more. Does anyone know of any?

muddycoffee 25-07-2005, 13:43 I've been to "sheffield bottom", near reading, and that's way down south :loopy:
The Sheffield in Cornwall is a very small place. To see it on the map, go to www.multimap.com and keep on clicking west of Penzance.
Take the road from Penzance towards Newlyn and instead of following the coast road carry on up the hill (B3315 if my memory is correct). Sheffield itself is to the west of Paul. You need quite a large scale map to see it.
There are a few standing stones in that area to look out for. There is one by the roadside just after Sheffield (heading west) and shortly after this there is a stone circle.
DID YOU FIND THE ONE IN TASMANIA AUSTRALIA .JUST A DOT ON THE MAP ITS ABOUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ISLAND VERY NICE AREA.
LordChaverly 26-07-2005, 11:58 There are several in the US
There's one in New Zealand (South Island?)
Also Canada (Ontario)
Sheffield BEACH, South Africa
I went on a 2 week New England, US, drive last month, and made a couple of diversions to get photos of me next to the 'Welcome to Sheffield' signs, a bit silly but, you have to do it.
Sheffield MASS is quite big, 2 pubs(a lot for a town in USA), one of which i drank in called 'limeys' ..charming.
Sheffield VERMONT (no pubs) is beaut, just in the hills like our very own city. (got some seriously strange looks when i had my photo taken here, so we left before they got there guns)
Both very quiet and nice towns, but to be honest, boring as ****.
