Mickyboy 10-02-2005, 08:04 Pond Street mob of the late sixties early seventies were definatly not skinheads . I should know Eskimo & Co chased us often enough.
Though after a pal of ours put one or two of them straight we were able to walk through safely. They were in the main Ok after that. Eskimo in particular was a nice bloke.

Mickyboy 10-02-2005, 11:20 Hope Eskimo s Ok I used to see him in the 80's in summer near the Dog track I think he worked in a foundry or steelworks near there, used to pip and wave as I went past.
We were mods or used to think we were and used to walk through Pond Street after going to the 'Heartbeat , Broadway etc, so to start we were prime targets. I think that we got pally with them in a christian cafe {dont ask} called the Mustard seed on Norfolk Street, opposite where Bar Ha Ha is now.The pond street mob with Eskimo, Butlap etc was 1968 to early seventies so not too much time difference

Interesting post from you Kirky… the original Skinheads (1968) had steel capped “pit boots” “tie and dye” grand-dad shirts and army surplus dungarees. The police started to take your boots (nice chaps…not). The Skinheads moved on to wearing Levi Jeans, Doctor Martens and Ben Sherman shirts. At football matches the police would take the laces out of your Docers’s. As I remember it, and please correct me Kirky Sheepskins came in toward the end of the Skinhead period…by 1971 Skins had moved on to become Suedeheads…Levi Sta Press….Fred Perry shirts…….Brogue and Loafa shoes…….Crombies
I look forward to reading any further posts form Kirky and any former Skinheads from the 1968 1970 period.
Please forgive the spellings….it’s very late……and I’ve had a long day......:(
P.S. I forgot the Bracers
stevie1957 14-02-2005, 00:45 I wonder if Eskimo still has his bowler hat?

Very true....... Eskimo was not a skinhead. Uinted had Eskimo. We (Wednesday) had Carneby Btritain...a biker or greezer as they were known then. As a young lad me and my mate was about to be on the receiving end of a good kicking from him and his mates just down the road from the Rising Sun pub in Fulwood. I mentioned that I stood near him on Wednesday's kop every home match. We was sort of let off. I got a kick in the leg and my mate was spat on. It was very nice of them concidering the age difference and the fact that we were out-numbered three to one. ******* Bulllies!

'Carnaby Britton' Now there's a name from the past! Was at school with his younger sister.Pretty sure his real name was 'John' long dark hair and mexican style moustache? Last time I saw him will have been about 74ish,riding round on a triumph trident with a small sidecar.I believe he has a smallholding down south somewhere......Bully seems quite an appropriate name if memory serves me correctly, had a small gang that strutted round Fulwood and nethergreen victimising schoolboys,I never had a problem as I knew his sister very well, quite an affluent family!!
