You're living in the past... thats sooooo yesterdays news mate!

There have been referrences to that since day one.

Anyway, would just like to take this opportunity to share a thought for all those lives that were lost in that incident.

God Speed!

almost as bad as making references to 9-11 shops, where the obese americans go and buy doughnuts.

I guess you skipped over the part which said WTC attack - so even if you thought it was November - then you wouldn't have needed to ask what happened

Don't you mean 7/11?

It wasn't intended as a joke, and has offended, for which I apologise sincerely :(

I'm not sure what I meant to be honest - I suppose I was just wondering why we have adopted a different numerical date format (as opposed to saying 11/9). On reflection, it was incredibly flippant, I shouldn't have posted it, and have inadvertently dug a hole from which I probably can't get out.

Once again, I did not intend to offend, but the damage is done. My sincere apologies.

It's we Brits who are awkward when it comes to date formats. The international format is ccyymmdd and is being increasingly adopted as the standard because computers can sort it more easily.

Yawn, boring, blah, blah ....

Yeah, I didn't really get offended by it - my comment about the fact it included a subject whatever the date format - was just an evil  attempt to ruin your joke further

Us British our thicker skinned that those across the pond 8)

not strictly related but.....
911 is also the american emergency services number. Ours is obviously 999. In Europe it's 112. If you ring 112 here you still get connected to the emergency services. BUT, if you dial 911 you don't. I would've thought 911 was better known than 112 due to the all pervading Yank culture - yet 911 is not accepted. Weird non?

To be fair to Hodge, in Britain our usual date format is Day-Month-Year, i.e. 11/9/2001, making it 11/9 to us. Yet another Americanism we will no doubt adopt into our language.
