Seems a lot of adverts are showing smug cows with moronic boyfriends. C'mon guys! Let's stand up for our masculinity and bring back sexist ads - like wonderbra!

I have to agree with Jon that the El Paso ad is the worst. That woman sounds like such a fat Northern trollop. I know it's an advert, but doesn't her boyfried have any class or taste at all?

It's that annoying cartoon representation of an annoying Halifax clerk which really gets me. The human rendition was bad enough.

I agree totally, this was the first ad I thought of upon seeing this thread.

Have you noticed her accent is THE accent for "advert woman" to have? It's the same as the smug one on the phone while her partner makes aromatic spices.

The accent belongs to annoying girls with upper middle class backgrounds from East Lancashire... I think.

Yeah, and why are the guys in adverts so oppressed by the girls? Maybe because the GUYS who make up the majority of marketing teams observe that it sells! IMO

Most annoying Ads have to be the plethora of Loans adverts >.<

"What's that you say? Saddled up with debit? Can't make your repayments? Well don't worry, because with one easy call to XXXXX we can replace all your debits with one low monthly payment (for the next 40 years) and all it will cost you is the value of your loan (and some 10+% APR) and your HOME if you miss even one penny of the repayment plan" :)

Great aren't they?

On the other hand, I've seen some good advertising recently too.

I like the McCaines oven chips advert that starts with a single leaf landing on a railway track followed promptly by "DELAY" - to the tune Smile :) That advert always makes me smile hehe.

The other I haven't seen on TV yet. Go to http://www.the-eviltwin.co.uk click on View Highlights, and clip one. You may want to zoom in a bit before you start playing it, and make sure you have the sound on ehehehehehe.

Whats the most annoying advert ?

One of the worst offenders has to be Currys with that interior designer who has just been given a years extention to her contract...

Asda with its roll backs is becoming annoying too. And as for McDonalds with Chris Eubank and the cleaning advert - I'm not lovin' it !!!

duffman
18-01-2004, 11:21
The Mcdonalds ad gets my vote!Anyway just because the place is clean doesn't mean to say the food is nice!

And will someone snip Linda Barkers head on the currys ads please:D

I hate that advert for some accident claims company where the sales bloke is hooked up to a lie detector and this woman is like constantly at him with stupid questions like "do I get 100% of the compo?", at first I didn't get it, I just thought it was her being one of those annoying bossy women who never shut up, then dad told me the sales bloke was plugged into a lie detector.

I still hate the advert though, cos the woman is ugly as sin and never shuts up with the constant barrage of questions, not giving the guy a chance to answer 1 question before she's off with another, then another, etc etc.

The McDonalds / Chris Eubank ad' really annoyed me tonight when I saw it.

Or anything on local commercial radio. Cheap, cheap, nasty and cheap.

I saw that McD's advert last night and I remember saying to someone online......who the hell let Chris Eubank get into TV??? Extremely annoying and just wrong!

The other series that do my head in (apart from Grolsh adverts which just aren't funny anymore) are the Michael Winner 'calm down dear' E-sure TV and Radio adverts. They should at least come with a health warning. Do not operate heavy machinery when in listening and/or viewing distance.

Yep all of the above, Halifax, Prunella Scales (tesco ad), 118, Michael Winner (I'll give HIM [censored] calm down dear) and the new McDonalds Ads.

Although even though we're talking about quality here it's the quantity of adverts that get me these days. I like to watch some of the Sky channels on occasion and the advert blocks seem to last for over 10 minutes. It's so damn annoying and I end up channel hopping inbetween because I can't be bothered to wait. Quit it!!!

The one that sticks is my mind is for some sort of fever reducing cold forehead pads.

The mum walks into her sons bedroom an says "how's my little soldier?" and the sickliest, brattiest, most disgusting snot nosed child in the whole world squeeks "I'll survive".

I don't quite know why that advert annoys me so much, it just does!

The one for the loans company, it's so bad I can't remember which company it's for, but it basically goes "that's lower than Barclays... that's lower than Natwest...." etc. etc. It seems to be on every five minutes on some of the Sky channels.

I agree with the guy on the first page who singled out the solicitors add where the bloke is hooked up to a polygraph machine and the sour-faced woman harranges him with daft questions about a hypothetical claim for compensation.

I may be anal, but for one thing I'm sure that a polygraph machine would read something even when you're not fibbing as I understood that it monitored heart-rate, pulse, etc. To have a flat line as the add suggests the man would have to be dead or not hooked up to it.

Secondly, the fact that the guy gets up from the desk, walks to the door and then sarcasticly comments that the male interviewer has a nice tie results in a spazmodic reaction which I assume is supposed to indicate that he's lying for the first time...but he's not even hooked up to the machine any more!!!

The IBM adverts do it for me. I work for a company that has outsourced to IBM and know what an incompetent set of twits they are.

So, when

"A server"

I get an almost uncontrollable urge to throw a brick at the telly.

I am getting sick to the back teeth of mobile phone ringtone adverts on the Sky music channels.

They play the demonstration of the ringtone in the background which sounds like an 8 year old on a little Casio keyboard and then say send TEXT 1 for the mono TEXT 2 for the poly etc.
Order this ringtoneand we will send you this and 15 others at the cost of £3 each!!!!? Who sends off for these things?

Also I listen to Talksport radio at night and the same 5 adverts are played every 12 minutes forever. The main offenders being A.A.P endowment policies, and a 60's album, I know every word to these adverts and all of their phone numbers and it drives me MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not on as much anymore (thankfully), but the advert where a guy is cooking tea for his girlfriend while she's on the phone.

"did you hear that...aromatic spices....I'll call you tomorrow...if I'm still alive" she says in possibly the most annoying accent ever ever ever.

The Bounty kitchen paper ad as well where the world's least convincing cross dressers appear.

And not forgetting the Dorito 'friendchip' friends. Only to be replaced by the even more irritating Vernon Kay. I refuse to buy Doritos purely because of those adverts!

Be interested to know who pulled out Curries or Linda.

Rumour is that Curries deliberately made an annoying ad so that people would remember it, can anyone else think of a more famous advert from the last year? And all the negativity is directed at Linda Barker and not Curries. Off the top of your head can you think of the slogan for Dixons or any other electronic retailer?

My most annoying ad is the new one for a Nokia phone were they are all sat round watching movies on it when the phone rings. not that bad you may say, but the ring tone is the same as mine and i always come running into the room to answer my phone. EVERY TIME! Similar John Cleese advert for a credit card had someone randomly shouting my name in the background a few years ago resulting in similar annoyance.

I hate that smug dorky cow in the Direct Line Ads - her awful pronunciation of 'washing the caaaaaahhh! and 'are you ok? they said you had a crasshhhhhhhh' makes me wanna get hold of her and wring her little thin neck - and I am NOT a violent person!

Another that annoys me is one for Halifax (I think) where all the bally staff are singing to the tune of Rod Stewarts 'Sailing'....ggrrrrr!!!

The advert where the man is running down the street after a Toyota shouting, "He's nicked my car..... that's MY car!!" The first time it was funny. The second time it was mildly amusing. The third time? Annoying.

TIP - adverts run in set time periods. Most are exactly 3 or 4 minutes long. Most video & DVD recorders have a "30 second" skip feature. Record the program and press the skip button 6 or 8 times and you'll never need to watch an advert again. On my DVD recorder I can press the button 8 times rapidly as soon as an ad break begins and within a couple of second the program continues without the mind numbing ads.

I can't BEAR that advert - when it comes on, I'll either change the channel or turn the sound off.

It was the same with the last KFC advert, with the dreadful warbling sub-Mariah Carey singer. Mariah Carey's voice is bad enough, never mind a poor imitation of it.....

Then again though, I wouldn't be caught dead eating at KFC, so maybe the adverts aren't aimed at me :suspect:

Star,
Do you mean the disgusting one where the women talk with their mouths full of chicken and chips? I wouldn't say that it stirs me to fury [life contains greater problems], but I find it deeply annoying and rather offensive. To be honest, the kind of genetic refuse that live on the vile muck probably behave like that anyway. The advert probably strikes them as perfectly normal, and what one would expect amongst the oafish chip-guzzling, pop- slurping classes. 'Wha..munch, crunch, d'yer, munch, burp, munch..want? Eh? hiccup, burp, munch.. Bargain Bucket? munch, munch... that'll be, hiccup etc'.

- The BT ad with the dopey bloke who's living with a woman and her kids. The bit where he says "I think they've moved in with me", or something along those lines, as he looks at the beaker of toothbrushes, really grates on my nerves.

- Carol Voderman in ads for loans.

- the bloke in the confused.com ad.

- Not really a character in an advert, but those axa insurance ads that sponser crime dramas like Poirot on ITV3 really annoy me; especially the one with the woman running into the church wedding shouting "I've just got axa insurance!". Stupid, stupid, stupid.

On the other hand, the new Guiness ad is great - the one with evolution in reverse.

Just read this thread and there is no mention of the herbal essences woman -

'where are my socks?'

'in the drawer, next to your loin cloth'

ARGHHHHHHH! she is so annoying!

And there was something very wrong about the animated babies in the evian advert....urgh.

Mine used to be the car insurance advert which featured Michael Winner. Had to turn the sound off each time it was on as it drove me mad. So glad he'd been replaced by a cartoon mouse. Now it's the McDonalds Monopoly one, with the 'It's a Knockout' guy (can't remember his name) Particulary the bit where he puts his arms up to do a cartwheel and it's so obvioulsy not him!

21-03-2006, 09:43
i don't mind the Sheila's wheels ones. The kangaroo always makes me chuckle, plus Joe Scully from neighbours is in the bar. He's doing well.
I think the mouse thing on the esure ad is more annoying than Winner.

Most annoying advert - the confused.com one. Never seen anyone quite so smarmy as that slimy bloke in the suit.

not the most annoying but v funny

Ade Akinbyi - £1.75 million
Coach to cardiff - £40

the look on Warnock's face when they don't go up - PRICELESS

Apparently an agency went to winner to come up with a idea. He came up with the idea and pitched it.

The agency didn’t like it.

The agency dumped Winner

The customer loved it.

Customer dumped agency

Customer hired Winner.

Calm down, it’s only an advertising campaign, pocketed by Winner.

Phil Tuffnel advertising some dodgy loan company is pretty naff - completely unconvincing acting from both him and the loan company "advisor"

"Phil, this lovely couple were paying such a lot of money back every month"
"Did you manage to help them?"
"Yes Phil, we managed to combine all their loans into one crippling monthly payment and took their house off them"
"Great Stuff"

Also the confused.com bloke needs shooting

I absolutely detest that "Freederm" advert. It used to come on every single morning at 7.30am during my breakfast. The product is designed to go deep into your pores to treat acne, and the advert consisted of a group of teenagers smiling cheesily and bopping around to the beat of Ultra Nate's "Your Free". Terrible advert, and I hate the song even more now than I did before.
Another equally irritating TV advert was for some babie's cough medicine...the advert was so memorable that I can't even remember the name of the product. But the ad had loads of babies in it all bunged up with colds and coughs, and crying to the tune of "I Hear Thunder". I found this advert particularly repulsive, as yet again it came on during breakfast time, and there's nothing more to put you off your appetite than a load of snotty kids coughing and sniffling and moaning as you eat.
Saying all this, being a Graphic Designer, ads that produce any sort of reaction, be it love it or loathe it, the point is to make the product memorable. It is the same with radio advertising......one radio ad that i CANNOT STAND is the Subway ad, heard on Hallam Fm and Galaxy. There are 2 ads - one has a SCOTTISH father who starts with "we're poor, poor I tell you..." and the ENGLISH daughter explains that 6 inch subways are only £1.99 so then he's like "we're rich, rich I tell you!" IT's SOOOOoooooooo IRRITATING! The other one is a young couple and the woman is giggling saying "I can't" and the man is arguing "you can", the bit advertising the £1.99 6 incher comes on, then the man goes "ru gonna share that with me?" The woman replies, with her mouth full of food, "I can't." RUBBISH! But yet, it's so memorable. I love Subway, and a stupid advert isn't going to put me off the product, but the ads are so terrible that I remember what it is advertising.
But then again, i've just contradicted myself, cos the snotty baby ad is awful but yet I can't remember the name of the product.
I love this thread!!

the one that really used to make me angry was the one for volkswagon golf i think. At a wife swapping party where the big bird picks up the keys and all the blokes go quiet and they all want to do her cause she picks the golf keys.
dont know if it was banned but it should have been. Talk about negative body image. Just cause she aint a size 6 it makes out like no one would fancy her. dont like it. dont like the message. its cultural brainwashing

The loan company ad where the bloke is tossing (oooeeerrr) the football about with his missus filming him on a camcorder.

We do that all the time in the real world.

It would be funnier if he juggled the ball, dropped it, but in trying to catch it, nudged her, in such fashion that the camcorder jammed into her face causing copius amounts of blood and pain. Queue claims direct ad.

I didn't think anything cuold beat Kerry and her Iceland ads, but something perhaps just has...

frosties 'they're gonna taste great' with that blonde kid who looks old enough to know better....
