My brother is getting married and his fiancee is Hindu so they are having a Hindu wedding.

Can anyone recommend a good shop or row of shops in Sheffield that sell indian clothes? I had a look with my sister-in-law to be in Green Street in London at the weekend so I know the kind of thing I'm looking for. I don't want a Sari (too hard to put on!), but would like the dress over trousers type of outfit. I want to get good material (silk or similar) and want beautiful quality detailing e.g. beading, embroidery. It's going to be quite a glamourous wedding so want to look the part! I may need to get the outfit made to fit, so it would be good if the shops sell material that is already beaded e.g. has the neck and bottom of trousers ready done, and then the material is cut and made to fit. Unless of course there are some ready made outfits that fit me or need slight adjustment.

Any ideas anyone?

There is on on attercliffe road, I go by on my way into town in the morning, it looks quite big, has loads of stuff in the window. trousers and top sets, all different colours with lots of embroidery and beading. might be worth a look.

Try Fir Vale, there are a couple down there. They display some lovely garment in the windows.

Thanks all so far :)

I know where the ones are on Abbeydale rd, so I will look there, I'm not sure if they are fancy shops or everyday clothing either!

As for the Attercliffe and Fir vale shops, where abouts are they? Do you know what they are called? I'm not that familiar with those areas, are they just in the main high streets? (Attercliffe Rd, sounds like a main road).

Cheers

but would like the dress over trousers type of outfit. A punjabi suit ? I know you specifically mentioned Sheffield but you'd get a fantastic choice if you could make it to Leicester (Belgrave Road) Might be worth an hour or so on the train for a wedding :)

There's one opposite the gates to the Norther General Hospital, sorry I can't remember the name but it is clearly visible on the main road, then if you follow the road straight along to Page Hall, there is at least one more. They both specialise in asian clothing. I actually bought a shalwar kameez ( tunic and trousers) from the one at Fir Vale.

There is a little shop called DAMAN opposite Abbeydale primary School on Abbeydale Road, or Arshad Textiles on Owler Lane opposite Fir Vale School, and of course one mentioned already in Attercliffe The Karachi Stores just past Staniforth Road bottom on Attercliffe Road. If however you still want bigger and better choice then Bradford or Leicester, but if you have already been to Green Street then nothing will come close to that apart from maybe Southall(London).

Best of luck

The one on Atterclife road in on the main street, if you go by Don Valley Stadium heading towards town its further down the street on the left, I know everyone says this but honestly you can't miss it :) think its called karatchi store (though I am sure I have spelt that wrong)

Many Thanks for everyones help. Went to Karachi stores in Attercliffe first and it had exactly what I was looking for. :) So didn't need to try the other places in the end.

So if anyone else is ever looking for Hindu wedding outfits, I'd recommend this shop. They were very helpful.
