The old _el cheapo_ speakerset is giving up the ghost here, and I was wondering if anyone wanted to recommend a Stereo speaker set (or 5.1) that they use personally and would recommend. (I have an Audigy Platinum Audio card.

For the most part, it's playing music, so something ideally suited to that would be preferable.

What's your favourite audio setup for your computer?

Go for Creative GigaWorks T40 Speakers. they are quite expensive (78 quid in pc world) but worth every penny spent. you wouldn't be disappointed. The best speakers I've ever had.

I have an 800watt (r.m.s.) studiomaster PA mixer amp powering some Aural Envelope floorstanding hifi speakers.

To say it's the dog's plums would not quite do it justice. I have never heard any so-called, PC speakers which sound any good. There is no substitute for the clear sound and headroom to be afforded by a powerful system on low settings.

Personally I would go for a T-amp. For the price I've never heard a better sounding amp. I'm using one at the moment but Im thinking about getting another 2 and putting them through a crossover and having a 3 way system.
Heres a review http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/t-amp_e.html

Now the specs don't sound much 6 watts at 8 ohm but if it is clarity rather than power you want I cannot recommend them high enough. I borrowed one of a mate a few months ago and put them through a pair of really rubbish speakers and it sounded amazing. The stereo separation and placement is second to none and it is like listening to music through top end studio monitors.
They are also battery operated so totally portable.

I have heard great things about the T-Amp I must say, and I have a nice set of JBL monitors that would no doubt sound great with it.

Muddy, that sounds like the coyotes cojones, but for the most part I'm listening to compressed music sources so a high end system I feel would merely highlight the inadequacies of the music encoding - and it's likely to be way out of my sub £100 price range.

Probably between the T-Amp and the Creative speaker sets then, thanks chaps.

I also vote for Creative stuff. I only have a 2.1 system but the sound quality is superb.

Let's be honest you could easily blow thousands on a speaker system, but the difference between that and a hundred quid system is probably noticeable by a few dedicated audiophiles.

Personally I have an old Creative Inspire 7.1 system (of which I only use 5 because 7 speakers is a lot of speakers to have in a room which is shared with other stuff) and they sound just fine. Not the newest stuff around, but you can pick them up on Amazon for 75 quid.

They aren't very loud, but the sound quality from my HarmanKardon sound sticks is lovely.
