View Full Version : Sunrise over Sheffield?
Hi guys,
Can anyone let me know where the best place is to get a good photo of the sunrise over Sheffield?
Every view over the city I seem to come across is obscured by buildings, tram lines or trees. Where is the best place to get an unobscured view?
It would be great to get something over the next few mornings when the frost is still lying.
Many thanks.
Googleberry 15-12-2007, 19:57 Sunrise is at 07:15 tomorrow (16/12/2007), in the South East. So get a map of Sheffield and draw a line from the South East through whatever you want to be in the picture, and pick a place to take your photo on that line. I would suggest perhaps the nice walk along from the upper reservoir at Redmires. Take the right-hand footpath alongside the stream, past the giant drain hole, and head to 53°22'15.36"North 1°36'30.51"West, which is about 350 metres above sea level. Don't forget your torch!
Personally, I would recommend the view from Carl Wark, unless you particularly want Sheffield City in the picture. Fantastic on a frosty morning. There'll probably be a few lovers up there watching the sunrise together, so you won't be alone!

OMG! not the giant drain hole ... please don't get that in the picture unless you want us all feeling strangely weird :suspect:

hillsbro 15-12-2007, 20:04 Wadsley Common - the sun rises over the city. From Wisewood School (No 14 bus at 06:03 from town tomorrow, 06:33 etc. Mon-Fri) go along Rural Lane, turn left up Luke Lane, follow it round to the right and turn left up Aldene Road. It's a stiff climb (you can only go so far by car) but by the time you reach the field you'll have a panorama of Sheffield behind you.

Has anyone ever fallen down there? It looks like it might be inviting to children and other fools.
Greybeard 15-12-2007, 20:17 I would suggest Kirk Edge road - that's the high level road from Worrall to High Bradfield. I've taken a few from the post box outside the Monastery - great views over Sheffield as it's quite high up.

I took a nice photo of a sunrise over St Marys Church in the centre. But lost it when my pc packed in. If you come out a bit from Sheffield on the ringinlow road you can get some nice sunset and sunrise pictures there ... Here's one I took there and a couple of others..

I took this picture (http://picasaweb.google.com/neil.hopkins/Sunrise/photo#5123413913417986482) from Chapeltown near the A61 a couple of weeks ago.
If you want an urban/industrial view then you can't beat Wincobank Hill with views from Meadowhall in the east to the city centre in the west. Good for both sunrise and sunset.

Albert T Smith 16-12-2007, 13:15 I never thought that so many people were out of bed, like me, at this time in the morning.
Suggest ' Fox House end of the summit of Houndkirk Road ' ( Roman Road to Ringinglow )
top of meersbrook park is pretty good.
