Hello ladies

I'm hoping for some help! I'm a novice knitter - I've managed to work out how to knit and purl, but that's my limit so far.

I've fallen in love with two lots of chunky wool, but I have no idea what to knit, other than not a scarf (fed up of those now) and not a hat (I will just look stupid!). I want something for me - does anyone have any (very easy!) suggestions? :help:

Helo Krissyc and welcome! Knit and purl are the only 2 stitches in knittting so - so far, so good! Now it's what you do with them that counts :) You will need to get the hang of increasing and decreasing to move past a scarf. Is there some one who can show you that? If not, there are some very good links to online videos (check the Recommended Knitting & Crochet Links thread on this forum). If you are in Sheffield you can always pop in and ask me or the lovely Rowan ladies in John Lewis.

What about a scribble lace scarf knit in a very skinny yarn and the chunky yarn. It would be different enough from a plain scarf to be a bit more interesting for you. (Sorry, I tried to link to a phot three times and gave up)

I know what you mean about hats, I'm forever searching for a style that I don't look a total prawn in.

How about a very basic jumper? There are some patterns around that are labelled "easy knit" and are just very plain, with very few decreases etc. You will get a real buzz when you make your first proper garment!

Thank you for all your advice :) Unfortunately, Christmas and New Year happened, so I've only just got chance to reply or think about anything! I've also added to my potential troubles by being tempted into two balls of Rowan biggy print wool (in different colours!) in the Cole Brothers sale - they were 50p each, after all!

So, I have two 50g balls each of two kinds of chunky wool and one ball each of two shades of biggy print... :help:

I think I'd like to make some wristwarmers and a snood (the 80's style tube one! I have no shame!) - no need for them to match - but I can only find patterns for wristwarmers that need DK wool and I can't find any for a snood! :help:

50p for a ball of biggy print is excellent! Unfortunately 50g of biggy print might not be enough for a snood I shouldnt think:suspect: I used 3 balls to make a reasonable sized scarf so Im just going on that. Ill have a look roun to see if I can come up with some 1 ball biggy print projects.

You might turn up some patterns if you search for "cowl" rather than snood. Same thing different name. There's one here (http://http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/kjif-hood.html)(free pattern but you do need to register, my software thinks its a dodgy site but I think Lionbrand is safe enough) You could just knit a small sample and work out how many stitches you need to get a 26" circumference then just take it from there.

Try looking for a simple cardigan pattern made up of rectangles rather than having to shape . That is what I did when I learnt to knit. Good luck with it .
