I have just done one of the hardest things I have had to do in my life,my best mate,Ghost had throat cancer and Iv just had him put to sleep. He was a long haired german shepherd and when I first got him 9 years ago he was just aa ball of fluff, like i say it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do especially when I had to sign the consent form ,strangely enough when it was all over it felt as if a great weight had been lifted and I realized that it was all for the best,it hurt watching him as he changed from the dog he once was and now he is suffering no more.Goodbye Mate.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ghost, it sounds like he had a good long life with you, I know that no words can help right now....but take comfort in the fact that when Ghost needed your love and strengh the most you did not fail him out of selfishness and sadness, but did what was best for him... and hardest for you.
I really hope that you are soon feeling a little better and can remember Ghost with a smile when you think of the things he used to do, (((HUGZ))) for you and your family.

Oh Rotherhamer, I can only offer condolences but as you have said, he is no longer suffering and that is one of the bravest things you can possibly do as a pet owner so well done.

I've not yet been in that situation but all I can say is well done for being so strong for Ghost and hopefully it won't be long before you can remember the good times without feeling so much pain and loss.

Best wishes.

Feeling so sad for you Rotherhammer,
Ghost sounds like a beautiful dog I have always had Germaan Shepherds, they are so loyal,
but I am sure you did the right thing.
You wouldn't have wanted to see him suffer.I know it doesn't make it any easier, its such a very sad time,

Just try remember the happy times you have both had over the past nine years.

As Lotti has said...bravest thing you can possibly do as a pet owner.... we all know the day will come and when it does we do what is right for our pets...

I'm sure that all of us who have animals can say thank you on Ghost's behalf for all of the love and support that you have offered him over the years Rotherhamer and for taking what must have been such a hard step to stop him from being in pain.

I am 100% sure that with every animal I've taken on their final trip to the vets it was the right thing to do when I was considering their best interests. That's not to say that it's an easy choice, but unconditional love is not about things being easy is it? We take the responsibility to make the decisions on their behalf when we commit to share our life with them.

I hope you'll soon be able to remember Ghost with love but without pain.

Sorry to hear your bad news.

We had to have our 20 month old welsh spriner spaniel put to sleep a couple of years ago due to kidney failure - 2 weeks before Xmas - so I understand

So sorry to hear about Ghost. I had this awful decision for one of my dogs Gem who I had to put to sleep in October. It is so hard for you at the moment I know, but you must keep focused on all the good times you had together and that you gave Ghost a fantastic life.

Be brave and ((((hugs))) you all who loved Ghost.

RIP Ghost xx

Its heart breaking when it gets to this point in an animals life, like losing one of the family.
Night night ghost.
