View Full Version : Night time work possibilities ... ?

Here's my situ.

Currently I am a carer for my mum following her accident where she was knocked down by a bus earlier this year. She suffered intercerebral hammorhaging.

Following her release from hospital At the beginning of August, I have been assigned as her carer, other members of the family being in profiled jobs and or with children to care for. So being unemployed I obviously have the time... while other family members turn up after work and commitments. By then mum is winding down and needs minimal supervision, so for the past few months I have felt imprisoned in my own home while others go about their daily routine as normal and as a priority, though I don't actually trust other family members to be as caring and sympathetic towards mum.

Trouble is, I have mounting debts and the longer they go unpaid the more interest goes on etc. I desperately need a job but the only time I can safely allocate hours, is at night. That's not to say mum's at any less risk then.

I want to get rid of my debts but at the same time I don't want a dead end job. I got made redundant Christmas Eve last year from such a job. I'd like to find a job that still has a "structure" with possiblities of progression and learning etc. Do you know of such a job that even exists at night and where's the best places to start looking.

Hope you can advise, Thanks, Joe.

Will bear this in mind, though I can't say I'd be creating or attending any parties as situations wouldn't allow.

The experience I have, however extensive and diverse, is limited to my own mother, the woman who gave me life and everything I have .. the woman who therefore I owe everything and love so deeply. Caring for someone else may be a different ballgame, obviously the respect would be there, people cant help ageing or their state of health, privacy and dignity should be awarded everyone. The hours I'd say which I have free are from 8pm onwards. This respite is due to my uncle (mum's brother) turning up and staying the night .. having said that he's deaf in one ear and sleeps like a log..so if mum was to wander to the loo in the night and fall ..he wouldn't hear her. I need to be away from the situ to stop me from feeling imprisoned, to restore my own dignity by earning a wage to pay my bills.. The state of play seems to be .. even though I'm caring ..I'm also being neglectful (of debt) and thus placing mum and myself at risk of being homeless .. before anyone suggests "Nursing Home" ...there's no way I'd abondon my mum like that ..other family members may be selfish to put their own comfort and leisure first (thats how it is) but not me ..She's not just an elderly lady, she's been hit by a bus .. unsteady on her feet and 80% of the day she's living in another era... at times she doesn't even know me ..and I'm here every minute of everyday doing all the nitty gritty stuff... She's my Mum.

Have you tried the Sheffield arena for a night time job it is only about 5 hours a night when there is something on there. I work there and have done for the pst four years and I love it. It is classed as casual work so you can basically do it when you want/can. You would be working for a security company called 'G4S'. Good Luck.

Thanks for that Cheryl, do I apply straight to the Arena or the JC? and does G45 send you anywhere else?

Apply to G4S on 01142565550. You will only work in or around Sheffield but we also do football in Huddersfield and in the summer we are all over the country, Im sure if you explain your situation they will understand, they are very nice people. You will need to speak to Andy or Angie. We used to be called Rock Steady so you may have heard of us. Let me know how you go on.
