Tempted by Squeeze.

Brilliant writing, evocative song about remembering home.
hammond organ sounds and Local lad on main vocals! Descending chords. A total classic.

Athough my favourite song changes from day to day.

Very, very hard to say just one tune.
Contenders would be.....

Suedehead by morrisey
Cloudbusting by kate bush
Anna begins by counting crows
Love will tear us apart by joy division
Rapture by anita baker

Actualy, I could go on. It's impossible!

Soma, by the Smashing Pumpkins, without a doubt.

Lasts forever, and takes ages to get going, but once it kicks in, it really kicks in. Brilliant.

Nick,
Good selection. You mention a Stevie Wonder track called "As". Have you accidentally forgotten to write the rest of the song title, or is it really called that? I don't think I've heard of that one, though I have probably heard it. One of life's mysteries for me, is how Stevie went downhill into mush after excellent albums like Talking Book and Innervisions. From material like Superstition, he went on to make dross like Ebony and Ivory. Enough to make one shake a fist at God!
Regards.

I think it's called "As" as "as" is the first word of most of the songs lines ..

George Michael and Mary J Blige did a (fairly good) cover of it a couple of years ago.

Lyrics : http://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/stevie-wonder/131902.html

I love Stevie Wonder, my mum was a big fan, she used to play him constantly when I was a kid (that and 10cc for some reason), manys the night I've come home a bit drunk and danced round the livingroom to Superstitious.

I've said it before and I'll say it again . . . . Billie Jean.

Also, many others including:

River of Dreams - Billy Joel
Guns and Roses - You could be mine
Men at Work - A land down under
Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) - Steve Harley
Build me up Buttercup - The Foundations
Everything I do ( I do it for you ) - Bryan Adams
Angels - Robbie Williams

And almost every song from:
The Beatles, MJ, Madonna, 2Pac, Dire Straits & Oasis.

I doubt if anyone could narrow it down to just one track, I have a few that bring memories or thoughts to the fore.
Tiger Feet by Mud
Hocus Pocus by Focus
Penslyvania 65000 by Glen Miller
Hit me with your rythmn stick by Ian Drury
Timewarp by The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Paradise by the dashboard light by Meatloaf

The list could go on and on, one thing that does annoy me slightly is young people seem to think music has only been invented in the last ten years or less and are sometimes totally unaware that the brain dead musicians??? of today have just nicked a tune or lyrics from a 60's or 70's group and then usually castrated it.

Annie's Song by John Denver

Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson
Runaway by Del Shannon

My list could be endless, but these are the best that have sprung to mind.

I must say I also like Robbie Williams - Angels

Mama by Il Divo
