What do you like to work with?

I work best with cotton yarn which is smooth, I find it a delight to crochet with. I dont like it to be any thinner than DK though. I dont mind knitting with it either.

Unfortunately I cant wear pure wool next to my skin, so some yarns that I really like are out of the question. What I find really annoying though, is when you use acrylic as you cant use wool and it rubs up (fluffiness or bobbling) in no time.

Ive got an embarrassingly large stash of brushed chunky which has the redeeming feature of knitting up quickly, but I find it a bit too warm. You cant win can you?

In a similar vein; I love to get things finished quickly, but prefer to knit with 4-ply or dk, and have just bought a substantial amount of laceweight. My only hope for quick finishing is if I learn to knit in my sleep! (I am hoping that this could happen)

I prefer DK but like 4 ply too. I don't really like chunky as I find it to be just too clumsy. I like to knit with merino, and also like cotton although hate it when it does that thing where it spins itself really tighty and gets loads of kinks

When I first learned to knit I used really chunky wool and large needles. As the years have passed I now prefer 4 ply and thin needles. I would never have thought that possible at first.

I love yarns with wool in them. My favourite wool is Rowan Wool Cotton, which is just gorgeous to knit with and makes beautiful hats and gloves. My gorgeous balaclava is made from Wool Cotton which is why I like wearing it so much!:)

I love working with handspun yarn, but I would, wouldn't I

I love laceweight yarn, but I think every hank should come with at least an extra 8 hours a day, I just can't get enough knitting done lately.

One of the nicest commercial yarns i've bought is Artesano Hummingbird Alpaca yarn, so soft and gorgeous colours, not too pricey at £15 for 150g.

Cheaper still and another favourite is Twilleys Freedom Spirit.
