View Full Version : Do you know what the best Italian film ever is called? Help needed!
boutiquechoc 13-12-2007, 12:10 My dad speaks Italian so I wanted to get him a fab Italian film for Christmas: he was rambling about something the other day saying it was the best italian film ever but I can't remember the name.
Any suggestions?
Am not thinking of the Godfather or Scarface or anything US made. True native Italian cinema....
La Dolce Vita! Anything by Federico Fellini. God I love the Italian language, it's great, I keep saying La Dolce Vita and La Strada to myself now! Haha!
cgksheff 13-12-2007, 12:13 Some would say La Dolce Vita (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_dolce_vita).
Indeed! Someone else did!

Fellini - 8 1/2. (Eight and a half)
Bicycle Thieves as Basil suggests, but you might need something more to go on. There is also Raffifi (spelling). Or maybe they mean spaghetti westerns!
Cinema Paradiso is a beautiful film as is Il Postino (although the director is actually English.)
Could it have been Malena? By the same director as Cinema Paradiso I think. That's a good film.
samstar999 13-12-2007, 13:19 I'll second Cinema Paradiso ...
John Locke 13-12-2007, 13:33 'The Good, The Bad & the Ugly' - Sergio Leone!
Cinema Paradiso-------showed it my university students here in China [ as part of their ' Western Culture Course ] and they loved it. How could anyone not !
I'd have to say Cinema Paradiso too, fantastic film, really enjoyed it. To be honest though, it is the only Italian film I've ever seen also...
